The record breaking, award-winning Off-Broadway play Tribes will end its monumental run, playing its final performance this evening, January 20, 2013 at the Barrow Street Theatre (27 Barrow Street) after 19 preview and 365 regular performances. The celebrated West Village theater will next be home to the New York Premiere of Ike Holter's Hit the Wall, which begins previews on February 19, 2013, with an official opening night set for March 10, 2013.

Steppenwolf Theatre Company is pleased to announce The After Party, a line-up of late-night, cross-genre performances Thursday nights during Garage Rep 2013, starting March 7. In the inaugural Storefront Playwright Project, the League of Chicago Theatres will provide window space at Expo 72 for emerging and established playwrights to work on a current writing project in view of the public in collaboration with the Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events. From a large screen in a window facing the sidewalk, the public will be able to read what the playwright is writing and watch the creation of the next great Chicago play in real time. The Storefront Playwright Project will take place at Expo72 located at 72 E. Randolph St. in downtown Chicago, December 4 - 22, 2012, Tuesdays through Saturdays, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Goodman Theatre announces four Chicago-based writers for its third season of the Playwrights Unit-a year-long residency program designed to support and develop new works. The appointed playwrights include Greg Allen, founding director of The Neo-Futurists and the creator of Too Much Light Makes The Baby Go Blind (30 Plays in 60 Minutes); Alice Austen, resident playwright at Chicago Dramatists and a member of Shanghai Low Theatricals; Ike Holter, founding member and resident writer of The Inconvenience and author of Hit the Wall; and Christopher Oscar Peña, whose play however long the night premiered at London's Old Vic. A partnership with Chicago Dramatists, the Playwrights Unit meets twice per month with members of the Goodman's artistic team to discuss their plays-in-progress and provide feedback for one another. The program includes readings of the playwrights' works-in-progress at Chicago Dramatists in early 2013, and culminates in June 2013 staged readings of their completed works at the Goodman. Playwrights Unit alumni include Philip Dawkins, Nambi E. Kelley, Elaine Romero and Martin Zimmerman (2011/2012 Season), and Seth Bockley, Lisa Dillman, Laura Jacqmin and Rohina Malik (2010/2011 Season).
