Ryan Landry's 'M' Premieres at the Huntington, 3/29

The world premiere of Ryan Landry's "M", legendary Boston artist Ryan Landry's inspired take on Fritz Lang's film noir masterpiece M, begins at the Huntington Theatre Company on March 29. Known for his blending of classic source material with his unique brands of comedy and imaginative theatricality, Landry (Mildred Fierce) transforms the iconic film about a city panicked by an elusive child killer into a surreal, screwball take that is both hilarious and heart-stirring. Directed by Caitlin Lowans (Turn of the Screw at Stoneham Theatre), the production's ensemble cast includes Gold Dust Orphans' regulars Larry Coen and David Drake, as well as Boston favorite Karen MacDonald (Good People and All My Sons at the Huntington) in the title role that made film actor Peter Lorre famous.

Reagle Music Theatre of Greater Boston has been nominated for 10 Independent Reviewers of New England (IRNE) Awards in the Large Theater category for shows from the company's 2012 season. "Bye Bye Birdie" received eight nominations, including Best Supporting Actress in a Musical for Anita Gillette (Chapter Two, Moonstruck, 30 Rock). "A Chorus Line" and "My Fair Lady" each earned one nomination. Winners will be announced on April 29 at the Boston Center for the Arts Cyclorama, 539 Tremont Street, Boston. A pre-ceremony reception begins at 7:00 p.m. The awards ceremony begins at 7:30 p.m.

Liesl Tommy Receives Vineyard Theatre's First Susan Stroman Directing Award

The Vineyard Theatre announces that the first Susan Stroman Directing Award has been given to Liesl Tommy. This new, residency-based award, given to a talented early or mid-career director, will provide its recipients with space, time and support to develop projects and strike new collaborations while in residence at the theatre. The award was presented to Ms. Tommy at The Vineyard's 30th Anniversary Gala, held last night at The Edison Ballroom. With Ms. Stroman's creative genius and spirit of collaboration as an inspiration, The Vineyard will proudly present the Susan Stroman Award annually.

Huntington Theatre Company in association with Jonathan Reinis Productions and WGBH present the hit public-radio series and podcast Selected Shorts on Tour: "Tales of Springtime, Sex & Baseball" at the Boston University Theatre June 8 at 4pm and 8pm. Tony Award nominee and Emmy Award winner Kate Burton ("Grey's Anatomy," The Cherry Orchard, and the upcoming The Seagull at the Huntington), Emmy Award nominee and Tony Award winner Denis O'Hare ("True Blood" and "American Horror Story"), and Academy Award nominee Amy Ryan (Gone Baby Gone) perform powerful, surprising, romantic, and funny stories by comic master Dorothy Parker, baseball writer W. P. Kinsella (Shoeless Joe), and quirky contemporary humorists Aimee Bender and N. M. Kelby.

Central HS Freshman Courtney Stewart Named MA 2013 Poetry Out Loud Champion

Springfield Central High School student Courtney Stewart was named Massachusetts's 2013 Poetry Out Loud Champion Sunday at Boston's Old South Meetinghouse. The freshman bested 22 other finalists including last year's winner, Stephanie Igharosa from Randolph High School, who was named first runner-up. Second runner-up was Micayla Riven from Needham High School.

Alan Alda to Lead Ten Chimneys' Lunt-Fontanne Fellowship Master Class, 7/21-28

Ten Chimneys Foundation announces its 2013 Lunt-Fontanne Fellowship Master Class with Academy Award nominee, six time Golden Globe winner, and five time Emmy Award winner Alan Alda serving as the Master Teacher. From July 21 - 28, Mr. Alda will focus on spontaneity on stage, and will lead ten accomplished theatre actors in a master class and immersion experience on the grounds and within the inspirational rooms of Ten Chimneys, the National Historic Landmark estate of Broadway legends Alfred Lunt and Lynn Fontanne in Genesee Depot, Wisconsin.

ImprovBoston Presents PLAYBOOK in March and April

This Spring an elite team of improvisers from ImprovBoston will do in 75 minutes what it takes most playwrights years to do. In Playbook, running Friday nights at 10 p.m. from March 15-April 12, some of IBs top improvisers will complete an unfinished script from a known playwright. Tickets cost $18 and $14 for students. They are available online www.improvboston.com. ImprovBoston is located at 40 Prospect Street.

79 Massachusetts High School Students Compete in 2013 POETRY OUT LOUD, 3/2-3 & 10

Seventy-nine students from across The Commonwealth of Massachusetts will compete at four regional semi-final competitions as part of the eighth annual Poetry Out Loud today, March 2 and tomorrow, March 3. Competitions will be held in Boston, Framingham, Springfield, and on Cape Cod. Each participating student recently won his or her individual school's competition in order to advance. The winners will advance to the State Finals on Sunday, March 10 at Boston's Old South Meeting House. All upcoming competitions are free and open to the public.
