A SWINGING BIRDLAND CHRISTMAS, New York's newest holiday entertainment starring Birdland regulars Hilary Kole, Jim Caruso, pianist Billy Stritch and violinist Aaron Weinstein, opened last night, and will play a limited engagement of six performances, every night through Saturday, December 25, with shows at 6pm.

George Schmitt may not be a 'star', but his family will shine on him brightly this year at the Django Reinhardt NY Festival at Birdland. HOT GYPSY JAZZ dating back to the 20's and 30's in Europe when great gypsy guitarist DJANGO REINHARDT met and performed with virtuoso violinist STEPHANE GRAPPELLI changed music forever and created the one of the most memorable musical partnerships in musical history. This will all be re-created at Birdland Nov. 2-7 and remains music that is ever exciting, creative, original in style and very cutting edge while it still incorporates beautiful melody and romance through the brilliant virtuosity of the players.

The American Songbook Project, a non-profit dedicated to presenting American popular songs in our schools with the goal of educating and developing new audiences for them, will honor singing legend Margaret Whiting and directing wunderkind Michael Mayer at a wildly original charity event at the Edison Ballroom, 240 West 47th Street on Saturday November 6 from 7pm to 11pm.
