The historic Fulton Theatre in downtown Lancaster launches its 2012/2013 season with Gypsy, often held up by critics as the best book musical written in the 20th century. Gypsy is loosely based on the memoirs of vaudeville and burlesque performer Gypsy Rose Lee, with music by Jule Styne, lyrics Stephen Sondheim, and a book by Arthur Laurents. It features some of the best-known and loved musical songs, such as 'Everything's Coming up Roses,' 'Some People,' 'Let Me Entertain You' and 'Rose's Turn.' Gabriel Kahane Makes Carnegie Hall Recital Debut, 10/25

GabrielKahane will return to Carnegie Hall on April 27, 2013, this time in Stern Auditorium. It will be another world premiere: a concerto for himself and the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra, with which he has served as composer-in-residence for two seasons.

Kiss Kiss Cabaret Holds Fundraiser for Burlesque Hall of Fame Tonight, 8/31

The Kiss Kiss Cabaret is partnering with other Chicago burlesque troupes to produce 'Chicago Teases for The Strip: A Benefit for The Burlesque Hall of Fame' tonight, Aug. 31 at 10 p.m. at the Greenhouse Theater Center, 2257 N. Lincoln Ave. This benefit will help The Burlesque Hall of Fame (BHoF) save its current location and memorabilia. All funds raised at this event will be donated to the BHoF relocation project. This is the first production of this kind, but it is scheduled to become an annual event.

Gypsy, America's most acclaimed musical, will kick off the Fine Arts Center Theatre Company's 25th season, Sept. 27 - Oct. 21, in the SaG?Ji Theatre. Premiering on Broadway in 1959, Gypsy debuted at the end of the golden age of musical comedy, and symbolizes the beginning of true musical theatre, a new era that straddled the lines between comedy and drama. Gypsy follows the life of burlesque star Gypsy Rose Lee and is full of comedy, honest drama, and vivacious musical numbers with lyrics written by a young Stephen Sondheim.
