OAKLAND, CA, July 21, 2016 -- The Black Choreographers Festival (BCF) has announced the program for its annual BCF Summer Series, featuring works by emerging and established African and African American choreographers, as well as pre-professional youth dancers. Featured artists include Gregory P. Dawson, director of dawsondancesf; Chris Evans in collaboration with Byb Chanel Bibene and musician David Boyce; Antoine Hunter, director of Urban Jazz Dance Company; Pat Taylor, director of JazzAntiqua Dance Ensemble; Latanya Tigner and Colette Eloi with Dimensions Dance Theater; and Kendra Barnes, artistic director of the Kendra Kimbrough Dance Ensemble and BCF co-director. The BCF Summer Series runs August 26 - 28, 2016 at the Laney College Odell Johnson Theater: 7:30 p.m. today and Saturday, and 4 p.m. on Sunday. San Francisco, CA, August 4, 2015 – Artistic Director and choreographer Charles Anderson's award-winning Company C Contemporary Ballet will present the world premiere of his new, evening-length story ballet, Arcane: A Tale of All Hallows' Eve in seven performances October 24-31 at the Cowell Theater in San Francisco. The production features an original story and choreography by Anderson, a commissioned musical score by Mike Krisukas of Zen for Primates, steam punk-inspired set and lighting designs by Patrick Toebe and the costumes by Laura Hazlet and will be performed by a company of 16 dancers, 9 musicians and narrator. Performances will be given Saturday, October 24, 2015 at 7:00 pm; Sunday, October 25, 2015 at 1:00 pm; Sunday, October 25, 2015 at 7:00 pm; Friday, October 30, 2015 at 11:00 am; Friday, October 30, 2015 at 8:00 pm; Saturday, October 31, 2015 at 1:00 pm and Saturday, October 31, 2015 at 7:00 pm. There will be receptions for the audience and artists after the opening night and closing night performances with no-host bar. Company C Contemporary Ballet founder and Artistic Director Charles Anderson has announced details of the Company's 2014 season of two programs plus a benefit gala in San Francisco and Walnut Creek with performances January 30 through May 11, 2014, at Yerba Buena Center for the Arts and ODC Theater in San Francisco and the Lesher Center for the Arts in Walnut Creek. The 12th season will feature a wide range of the kinds of ballets that have set the barre high for this 14-member Bay Area Company, which will return to New York for its third season there at the Joyce Theater August 9 and 10. Theatricality, precision technique, bravura performance, wit and a flair for the off-beat and innovative will be embodied in world premieres by Anderson, Susan Jaffe, Maurice Causey and Charles Moulton, as well as in the return of repertory favorites by Anderson, Patrick Corbin, Alexandre Proia, Charles Moulton and Yuri Zhukov.
