Berkeley's acclaimed Aurora Theatre Company jazzes up the holidays with NAUGHTY & NICE: A MEG AND BILLY CHRISTMAS. Bay Area husband and wife cabaret duo Meg Mackay and Billy Philadelphia, whose seasonal sensation A Little Cole in Your Stocking was a hit for Aurora in 2005 and 2006, return with a witty, memorable musical showcase that is sure to spice up the holidays for cabaret fans old and new. NAUGHTY & NICE plays for eight performances only December 17-30 at the Aurora Theatre in Berkeley. Aurora Theatre Company continues its 19th season with Minneapolis-based playwright Allison Moore's COLLAPSE. This surprising comedy, which originated as one of Aurora Theatre Company's Global Age Project (GAP) finalists last season, is the second main stage production to develop from the GAP; it will receive its main stage debut as a National New Play Network Rolling World Premiere, a collaboration with Aurora Theatre Company (lead theater), Curious Theatre in Denver, and Kitchen Dog Theater in Dallas.
24th Street Theatre Extends LA RAZON BLINDADA Through 1/29

In his internationally acclaimed stage work, La Razón Blindada, Argentine-born playwright/director Aristides Vargas infuses Miguel de Cervantes' classic novel, El Quijote with Franz Kafka's, The Truth About Sancho Panza, and testimonies by Chicho Vargas and other political prisoners held in the 1970's at the Rawson Prison during Argentina's dictatorship. Two political prisoners, oppressed by physical and emotional abuse, find solace in meeting every Sunday at dusk to tell the story of Don Quixote and Sancho Panza. Their storytelling unravels amidst the extreme limitations imposed by their condition of inmates in a maximum security prison. The production features Jesus Castaños-Chima, Tony Duran and Arturo Diaz de Sandy.

Aurora Theatre Company Holds Workshop for L’HISTORIE DU SOLDAT

Aurora Theatre Company announced today its plans for a workshop production of Stravinsky's L'Histoire du Soldat (A Soldier's Tale). Through an innovative collaboration between Artistic Director Tom Ross and former San Francisco Ballet dancer Muriel Maffre, Aurora will develop a re-imagined production of L'Histoire du Soldat, based on a new translation of the libretto and new adaptation of the score. The project will feature four musicians (piano, violin, clarinet and percussion), three actors, two dancers/puppeteers, puppets (one life-size and one small), and video elements. Maffre, who performed a concert version of the work with the Orcas Island Chamber Music Festival in Seattle, will serve as choreographer, dancer, and co-director of the workshop. Artistic Director Tom Ross will co-direct with Maffre, and Berkeley Opera's Jonathan Khuner will serve as musical director.

24th Street Theatre's LA RAZON BLINDADA has extended again until November 14. The show was named LA Times Critic's Choice by F. Kathleen Foley who said, 'Echoes of Kakfa and Beckett resound throughout in effusive, elliptical interchanges that are often nonsensical, sometimes didactic...the effect is hallucinatory, trance-inducing and surreal, an absurdist construct that hammers home man's gross capacity for inhumanity - and his transcendent ability to endure.'
