Five Broadway Dance Makers Vie for this Year's Tony Award

Now that the Tony Award nominations have been announced, it looks like a pretty competitive race for 'Best Choreography.' The category is full of creative and diverse work from four established Broadway vets, and the debut of a new modern voice. Each put their own distinctive stamp on dance genres that include tap, hip-hop, salsa, and traditional folk dances with a twist. Here are the five guys to watch out for on June 12th.

SHUFFLE ALONG Will Offer $40 Ticket for 4/1 Performance

All available seats for the newly-added Friday, April 1 performance of SHUFFLE ALONGhave been priced at $40. This performance ends a previously planned four-day hiatus period of the production. The producers of SHUFFLE ALONG are offering this low-priced ticket as a thank you to the musical's enthusiastic fans who lined up outside the Music Box Theatre's box office from Monday, March 21 to Thursday, March 24 for the chance to purchase same-day $40 rush tickets, but who were unable to do so since those performances were cancelled as a result of the illness of Audra McDonald, one of the musical's stars.

Miller and Aubrey Lyles, to create this groundbreaking work. SHUFFLE ALONG has a new book and is directed by George C. Wolfe, choreographed by Savion Glover, and stars six-time Tony Award winner Audra McDonald, Tony Award winners Brian Stokes Mitchell and Billy Porter, and Tony Award nominees Brandon Victor Dixon and Joshua Henry, heading a cast of 34. Opening night is Thursday, April 28 at the Music Box Theatre (239 West 45 Street).

SHUFFLE ALONG was an unlikely hit in 1921. It was one of the first hit Broadway shows starring, written, and directed by African Americans, but it has been overwhelming ignored in theatre history. Ninety-five years later, George C. Wolfe is preparing to bring the show back to Broadway, with a new and updated book by Wolfe. The revival will not only bring the original show' music and lyrics back to the stage, but will also tell the backstage story of its creation, and the impact it had on the theatre scene. SHUFFLE ALONG, OR, THE MAKING OF THE MUSICAL SENSATION OF 1921 AND ALL THAT FOLLOWED, is set to shuffle onto Broadway in the spring, so we're taking a look at the inspiration driving the revival, and a look back on the show's remarkable history.
