Godspell and Agatha Christie's Towards Zero kick off the 2016 season for Cockpit in Court Summer Theatre, the longest continuously running summer theatre in Maryland.  In residence at CCBC Essex, this community theatre has been mounting Broadway-quality productions for 44 years.

The brilliant Klea Blackhurst repeated her starring role as the saucy, wisecracking housemaid Hazel in a new musical based on Ted Key's cartoon character Hazel - best known for the 1961-66 TV sitcom of the same name. Titled 'Hazel: A Musical Maid in America', the four Lab Workshop performances were May 28 and 29 at the Lyric Theatre Performance Space in Times Square. Stage and screen star Lucie Arnaz will direct a reading of Hazel: A Musical Maid in America, a new musical composed by Ron Abel with lyrics by Chuck Steffan, and book by Lissa Levin, Edward Kleban Award-winning playwright and Emmy Award-nominated producer. The special two-day event will take place today, October 23rd and tomorrow the 24th at the June Havoc Theatre at the Abingdon Theatre Company in New York City. Klea Blackhurst will play the title role.

The program begins at 6:30 p.m. a silent auction and raffles. At 7:30 p.m., the CPM cast presents a special preview performance of HELLO, DOLLY! - CPM's first musical production for its fall 2014 season. A buffet reception will follow the performance. Cockpit in Court Summer Theatre, in residence at the Community College of Baltimore County, Essex, in its 42nd season aims to break last year's record audience figures of over 1,100 subscribers and 8,000 patrons according Artistic Director James Hunnicutt and President of the Cockpit Board of Directors Jessica Phillips. And this year's menu of favorites - 'Peter Pan' (June 13-29), 'The Odd Couple' (June 14-29), 'Annie, Jr.' (July 11-20), 'Legally Blonde' (July 18-Aug. 3) and 'The Tale of the Allergist's Wife' (July 19-Aug. 3) - could do just that!

Performances will be 1 p.m. weekends, tonight, May 3 through May 18 in the Administration Building Lecture Hall at CCBC Essex, 7201 Rossville Blvd. A 4 p.m. performance on May 11 will be sign language interpreted by students from the Interpreter Preparation program. The show, which is being presented as originally written, contains adult language and content and is not suitable for younger children. Children's Playhouse of MD (CPM), in residence at CCBC Essex, will open its 2013-2014 season with Bye Bye Birdie 1 p.m. on the weekends of Sept. 14-15, 21-22, 28-29 in the Administration Building Lecture Hall (formerly the J Building), CCBC Essex, 7201 Rossville Blvd. An additional 4 p.m. show Sept. 22nd will be sign language interpreted by students in the CCBC Interpreter Preparation program. Tickets are $10 each and can be ordered through the CCBC Box Office at 443-840-ARTS (2787) or online at http://www.ccbcmd.edu/performingarts/childrensplayhouse.html. Tickets will also be available at the door, space permitting. Advanced ticket purchase is recommended.
