Geffen's THE PIANIST OF WILLESDEN LANE Extends thru Sept 15; Follows with US Tour

The world premiere of Mona Golabek in The Pianist of Willesden Lane has been extended for the final time in the Audrey Skirball Kenis Theater at the Geffen Playhouse (with performances now running through September 15, 2012) before hitting the road for a national tour.

The musical selections begin and end with WEST SIDE STORY, and feature songs from his other Broadway shows (ON THE TOWN, CANDIDE), but provide a good balance with his classical, albeit lesser known, compositions.

Award-winning actor and musician Hershey Felder (George Gershwin Alone, Monsieur Chopin, Beethoven As I Knew Him) returns to Chicago with Maestro: The Art of Leonard Bernstein. Combining first-person narrative with the music of composer Bernstein and the artists who inspired him, Maestro: The Art of Leonard Bernstein is the story of the legendary American composer and longtime music director of the New York Philharmonic. Helmed by award-winning director Joel Zwick, Hershey Felder will return to Chicago's Royal George Theatre, 1641 N. Halsted, where from September 2004 through January 2006, he held residence with George Gershwin Alone and the World Premiere of Monsieur Chopin, culminating in 70 weeks of live performances. Maestro will begin previews on November 1st with press opening November 9th, and will play through December 30.

Executive Producer Lou Spisto today announced the return of actor, playwright and Steinway concert artist Hershey Felder in a trio of his critically-acclaimed solo shows. Hershey Felder as George Gershwin Alone delighted San Diego audiences in 2006 and 2008 and due to popular demand will be revived for 13 performances from July 1 - 10. Felder will lead audiences on a musical journey through a century of American music in Hershey Felder in Concert: The Great American Songbook Sing-Along from July 11 - 17. The latest addition to Felder's ambitious 'Composers Sonata,' Hershey Felder in Maestro: The Art of Leonard Bernstein, will receive its Globe debut from July 22 - Aug. 28. Previews run July 22 - July 28. Opening night is July 29. Both George Gershwin Alone and Maestro are directed by Joel Zwick. All three events will run in the Old Globe Theatre, part of the Globe's Conrad Prebys Theatre Center. These tour-de-force presentations, Beethoven, As I Knew Him; Monsieur Chopin and George Gershwin Alone; as well as The Great American Song Book Sing-A-Long, are written and performed by Hershey Felder and directed by Joel Zwick.

Eighty-Eight Entertainment, Samantha F. Voxakis and Lee Kaufman present Hershey Felder's COMPOSER SONATA at the Drury Lane Theatre Water Tower Place (175 E. Chestnut St.). The final bow of the trilogy will begin with Beethoven, As I Knew Him playing November 13 to December 6, 2009. COMPOSER SONATA, written and performed by Hershey Felder and directed by Joel Zwick, also includes Monsieur Chopin, which will play December 9 to 20, and George Gershwin Alone, which will play December 23 to 30, 2009. The "COMPOSER SONATA" trilogy will culminate in two special New Year's Eve presentations of The Great American Song Book Sing-A-Long. These shows will be filmed in Chicago before a live audience for future television broadcast and world-wide release.
