Urban Culture Project Welcomes Andy Anima to YOU'RE SUCH A GOOD SPORT, 3/19

The exhibition project, You're Such a Good Sport, focuses on artists' work relating to sports and sports culture. Featuring visual artworks as well as performances, participatory activities, special events and public programs, this exhibition represents both sport and art as deeply rooted into our definitions of ourselves, individually and culturally, and invites viewers and participants to discover commonalities within the meanings of gamesmanship and art-making.

Contemporary violinist, Regina Carter brings her tenacious force in an African movement reflecting music from Mali, Senegal, Uganda and more. Her soon-to-be-released album Reverse Thread features infectious folk melodies from the African Diaspora mixed with original instrumentation from band members Will Holshouser (accordion), Chris Lightcap (bass), Alvester Garnett (drums), and special guest Yocouba Sissoko (kora).

Arguably the most recognizable of Alfred Hitchcock's famous blondes, Tippi Hedren, has had an active and enviable career for more than 60 years. On Jan 19th, 2010 the screen icon celebrated her 80th birthday with both public and private gatherings. Her daughter and son-in-law (Melanie Griffith and Antonio Banderas) threw an intimate gathering at their home for family and friends, while fans and colleagues gathered in the Palace of Mystery Theatre at the world famous Magic Castle for a Q&A as part of the very popular Legend Series with host B. Harlan Boll. The program unveiled details about the actress pertaining to her childhood, career and activism that many in the audience were surprised to hear.

Alley Theatre presents the world premiere of the new musical Wonderland about Alice, a children's book writer in Manhattan who is suffering through a creative block, estranged from her husband and alienated from her daughter. It takes a trip to a strange-yet-familiar Wonderland for her to regain her life's balance and again find the love and everyday magic that reside in us all - if we know how to look. With a book by Alley Theatre Artistic Director Gregory Boyd and Jack Murphy (The Civil War), lyrics by Jack Murphy, music by Frank Wildhorn (Jekyll & Hyde, The Scarlett Pimpernel, The Civil War), and directed by Gregory Boyd, Wonderland begins previews Friday, January 15, opens officially Wednesday, January 20 and runs through Sunday, February 14.
