The York Theatre Company, dedicated to the development of new musicals and preserving musical gems from the past, concludes the Fall 2014 Musicals in Mufti Series with the first New York revival and world premiere of a new re-imagined version of the 1992 musical, My Favorite Year, with book byJoseph Dougherty, lyrics by Lynn Ahrens, and music by Stephen Flaherty, based on the motion picture by Dennis Palumbo and Norman Steinberg. The York Theatre Company, dedicated to the development of new musicals and preserving musical gems from the past, concludes the Fall 2014 Musicals in Mufti Series with the first New York revival and world premiere of a new re-imagined version of the 1992 musical, My Favorite Year, with book by Joseph Dougherty, lyrics by Lynn Ahrens, and music by Stephen Flaherty, based on the motion picture by Dennis Palumbo and Norman Steinberg. The limited engagement of My Favorite Year will play 5 performances only this weekend, December 5-7, 2014 at The York Theatre Company's home at Saint Peter's (Entrance on East 54th Street, just east of Lexington Avenue).

Last night, November 10, The Lilly Awards Foundation with the Broadway at Birdland Series presented The Lilly Awards Broadway Cabaret: An evening of showstoppers written by women and performed by Broadway's Best to benefit The Lilly Awards Foundation whose mission is to promote gender parity at all levels of theatrical production, and develop and celebrate the work of women in the theater. Broadway In Chicago opened the the world premiere of AMAZING GRACE last night, the new musical with music and lyrics by Christopher Smith and a book by Christopher Smith and Arthur Giron, directed by Gabriel Barre (Andrew Lippas' The Wild Party) and choreographed by Tony Award winner Christopher Gattelli (Newsies).

Can a new musical be 'pre-Broadway' without having a New York theater booked, or without even announcing a timetable for said booking? How about a musical largely penned by a previously unknown writer, one who worked as a Pennsylvania policeman, and never formally studied music composition? Well, AMAZING GRACE is that show, and this expensive-looking, high-aiming show that's been in development since 2007, with book, music and lyrics by Christopher Smith (the book is co-written with the veteran playwright Arthur Giron) opened on Sunday night. So far, so good!
