Las Vegas is considered by many to be the 'ninth island' of Hawaii. The Las Vegas Philharmonic's first Pops Series concert for the 2014-15 season will celebrate the strong connection between the tropical paradise and our desert oasis by showcasing traditional and popular Hawaiian music in a program called 'Aloha from Las Vegas.' The concert will take place tonight, November 15th at 7:30PM in Reynolds Hall, The Smith Center for the Performing Arts.

Grammy-winning Chanteuse and Comedienne, Lady Rizo, appears for one 'standing room only' performance at The Copa palm Springs on November 1 at 8:00 pm. The cult entertainer New York magazine hails as a 'Cabaret Superstar' has made her mark creating vintage arrangements & theatrical explorations of pop songs from every decade. Lady Rizo (nee Amelia Zirin-Brown) co-created the cult caburlesque spectacular Lady Rizo & the Assettes in 2005.In January 2010 she won her first Grammy on a duet with acclaimed cellist Yo-Yo Ma that was released on a Holiday album featuring Diana Krall, James Taylor and Alison Krauss among others. She also sings and records with multi-platnum recording artist Moby and was nominated for an MVPA for the choreography the video for the single New York, New York featuring Debbie Harry. I had the cahncr to chat with Lady Rizo about her upcoming performance at The Copa and more. Here are a few highlights form that conversation:

Rita Wilson and Molly Ringwald deserve a lot of credit for being gutsy enough to go out of their comfort zones as performers and venture into the intimate, sometimes scary art from known as cabaret, where you're always live and can't rely on extra takes. It's also obvious that they've worked very hard at becoming the best vocalists they can possibly be. They have just as much right to live out their cabaret performing fantasies as, oh, about 75 percent of the 'singers' booking shows in cabaret room all over the New York. If Wilson and Ringwald weren't bold-faced names would their singing really be considered good enough to merit them gigs (and extended ones at that) at the Cafe Carlyle? And if they weren't celebrities, would they be receiving such breathlessly positive reviews from critics, some of who should know better?

To celebrate the strength and vitality of the Brazilian film industry, Museum of the Moving Image will present a new ongoing series, O Brazil: Contemprary Brazilian Cinema. Featuring works by established directors and emerging filmmakers, this showcase will present a bird's eye view of a thriving film scene. The first installment, from November 22 through December 20, 2014, will include three films: My Mother Is a Character (Minha mãe é uma peça), starring the popular theater and TV comedian Paulo Gustavo in Brazil's biggest box-office hit of 2013; Casa Grande, Fellipe Barbosa 's coming-of-age drama that has been a hit at several international film festivals; and The Music According to Antonio Carlos Jobim (A música segundo Tom Jobim), a musical tribute to the artist who popularized bossa nova, by Cinema Novo pioneer Nelson Pereira dos Santos.

Diana Krall Reschedules PPAC Show for March 2015

Diana Krall, who previously cancelled her November 30 engagement at the Providence Performing Arts Center (PPAC) due to complications brought on by severe pneumonia, will return to the theatre on Wednesday, March 4, 2015 at 7P.
Diana Krall Reschedules Van Wezel Performances for April 2015

Five-time Grammy Award-winning jazz pianist and world renowned singer Diana Krall recently had to cancel her U.S. dates due to sickness. However, she has rescheduled the tour and will be arriving at the Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall on April 16 at 8pm. Tickets go back on sale October 17 at 10am. Prior ticket holders must call or visit the Box Office to have their order reprocessed. Otherwise, those still holding tickets should retain them, as they will be honored on April 16.
