Ailey's Five-Week New York City Center Season Kicks Off 11/29

Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater kicks off a five-week holiday season on Wednesday, November 29 with a star-studded gala benefit, including a performance at New York City Center, and dinner-party at the New York Hilton Midtown Grand Ballroom. The gala honors Ailey Board President Debra L. Lee (Chairman and Chief Executive Office of BET Networks) for her commitment to the advancement of arts and culture and her dedication to the organization, which has helped steer Ailey to success since she joined the board in 2002. Honorary chairs for the evening are music and film stars Queen Latifah and Janelle Mon e.

Music Theatre Wichita continues its 2017 Season, "Hollywood to Broadway: A Summer Festival of Musical Theatre" with a new rendition of the vibrant 1954 movie musical turned stage show Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, which opened June 28 in the Century II Concert Hall in downtown Wichita, KS. The second of five locally produced Broadway-scale productions, Seven Brides for Seven Brothers is part of the organization's 46th season, which is also the 30th season for producing artistic director Wayne Bryan.

Music Theatre Wichita opens its 2017 Season, "Hollywood to Broadway: A Summer Festival of Musical Theatre" with the 2002 Tony Award-winning Best Musical Thoroughly Modern Millie, playing June 14-18 in the Century II Concert Hall in downtown Wichita, KS. The first of five locally produced Broadway-scale productions, Thoroughly Modern Millie launches the organization's 46th season, which is also the 30th season for producing artistic director Wayne Bryan.

March Madness is the second of two exhibitions that focus on the cultural of sport as represented in the visual arts. Curated by the duo, Hank Willis Thomas and Adam Shopkorn, this year's exhibition centers on the realm of athleticism from the perspective of women. The show features a roster of 30 artists, all women, whose artwork subvert masculine archetypes, and challenge more docile notions of femininity by highlighting the qualities of strength, fitness and agility that are characteristic of physical skill and capability. These aesthetic observations of the physical form become metaphors by which to consider broader issues about empowerment, gender roles, beauty, politics, labor, popular-culture - as well as ethnic and racial histories.
