LA MIRADA THEATRE FOR THE PERFORMING ARTS & McCOY RIGBY ENTERTAINMENT are delighted to present the second show of its 2016-2017 season:  Davis Gaines starring in the hilarious comedy LEND ME A TENOR, written by Ken Ludwig and directed by Art Manke.  LEND ME A TENOR will preview on Friday, October 21, 2016 (with a press opening on Saturday, October 22) and run through Sunday, November 13, 2016 at La Mirada Theatre for the Performing Arts, 14900 La Mirada Blvd in La Mirada.   

 Musical Theatre West (MTW) raises the curtain on its inaugural "Broadway in Concert" series for the 2016-17 season.  Each concert, held at the newly renamed Beverly O'Neill Theater at the Long Beach Convention and Entertainment Center, will feature top Broadway talent, including Davis Gaines (September 24, 2016), Valerie Perri (January 29, 2017), and Susan Egan (March 17, 2017).   Series and single tickets are now on sale at www.musical.org or by calling (562) 856-1999 ext. 4.  Single tickets start at $40, or purchase the series for packages of $100, $150, or a VIP package of $275, which includes a post-concert reception with the artists.

We pour out some Maker's Mark and chat about Lesli's wild experience winning the Olivier Award for her West End debut as well as her current gig recreating her original turn in Matilda the Musical on Broadway. Lesli dishes about the ironic text message she got about Cats, her Star Wars wedding and ranking of the seven films in the franchise, and the time she died twice on stage (I smell a rat!). Kimberly recently attended Miss America and informs us all about the 'Show Us Your Shoes' parade and the entire group casts a fantasy version of Real Housewives of Broadway with famous wife characters. We play Lights of Broadway Show Cards 'Heads Up!' and Lesli shares her story about working on stage with artist and #FriendOfTheShow Squigs.

The con is on! With plenty of wit, charm, and double entendres galore, Musical Theatre West's new regional production of the 2004 Broadway musical comedy 'DIRTY ROTTEN SCOUNDRELS' is one enjoyably silly romp. The show which features a book by Jeffrey Lane and music and lyrics by David Yazbeck continues its final weekend at the Carpenter Center for the Performing Arts in Long Beach through July 24. Based on the 1998 film comedy starring Steve Martin and Michael Caine, the stage adaptation eventually garnered 11 Tony nominations during its run. For MTW's fun new local revival, the title roles---a couple of con men who've taken to swindling the riches off of easily-seduced women in the French Riviera---are embodied by stage vets Davis Gaines (now a multiple fixture at MTW) and the incredibly funny Benjamin Schrader (The Book of Mormon).

Based on a 1980s film starring Michael Caine and Steve Martin, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels is terribly silly and much of the dialogue & lyrics imbued with an overabundance of sexual innuendos, but that's AOK, as this is not Stephen Sondheim, but a jazzy, feel good, laugh out loud type of show. As many times as I've seen it, I always fall directly into the trap...like most audience I'm hooked, especially if the two male leads are properly cast. In this new production at MTW, Davis Gaines plays Lawrence Jamison, the king of cons, and could not be more perfect. At his side is Benjamin Schrader as Freddy Benson, the rubber-faced comedic schmuck who pleads with Jamison to take him on and teach him the ropes, the tricks of the trade. These two head up a glorious cast under the uber skilled direction'choreography of Billy Sprague Jr., and what results is a triumphant hit for MTW... through July 24 only.

Pacific Chorale will be closing its season on June 12 with a bang - featuring an evening full of music to fit all tastes.

Stars of stage and screen will illuminate the night sky when the Pasadena Symphony and POPS presents its annual free Music Under the Stars concert on Saturday, May 14 at Pasadena City Hall's Centennial Square.

Michael Childers' ninth annual One Night Only benefit concert, which is entitled Sondheim in Love, will be presented tonight at 6:30 PM at The McCallum Theatre in Palm Desert. Directed by Lucie Arnaz, the evening will feature musical direction by John McDaniel. The show will feature Sondheim's most romantic songs sung by a starry line-up of Broadway's most prolific musical storytellers.

Susan Anton, Barrett Foa, Loretta Devine, Allison Janney and Andrea Marcovicci are among the galaxy of Broadway, Film, and Television stars lending their talents to the 32nd annual Southland Theatre Artists Goodwill Event (STAGE), Sondheim No. 5, with two performances on Saturday, June 18th at the beautiful Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts in Beverly Hills.  David Galligan directs with Michael Orland as Music Director.  Performances will be at 2:00pm and 8:00pm.
