BWW Review: Fierstein's CASA VALENTINA West Coast Premieres at Pasadena Playhouse
by Don Grigware - Mar 22, 2016

Harvey Fierstein's Casa Valentina won a deserved four Tony nominations in 2014 when it played on Broadway. This is a fine example of an unusual play, one of surprising depth, that goes out of its way to hit a nerve or two. Although comical, Casa Valentina is a drama at the core, with some shades of kitchen-sink reality. Currently onstage at the Pasadena Playhouse, Fierstein's latest opus takes a long look at yet another minority with fortitude and alacrity. Murder in Washington Book Revisits 78 Homicide Crime Scenes
by Christina Mancuso - Mar 3, 2016

Marquis Publishing, an affiliate of the Marquis Gallery announces the release of author and photographer Marques Vickers' 'Murder in Washington: Notorious Crime Sites,' the 299-page visual return to 78 infamous crime scenes detailing the shocking and often searing narratives behind each tragedy. Over 100 images amplify the experience by escorting the reader to the crime location, offering a critical context and perspective for understanding. The Washington edition is Vickers' third in the series of 'The Topography of Evil' showcasing crime sites. His previous books covered Northern California and the entire state of California. The captured snapshots portray visual testimonies of extinguished lives removed by acts of violence. Crime scenes often revert back into unremarkable landscape or unassuming buildings over the ensuing years and decades. Several have altered little since their moment of infamy. Many are passed daily by pedestrian and vehicular traffic unaware of a location's unique significance. Washington has been the residence of three nationally prominent serial killers including Ted Bundy, Gary Ridgway (The Green River Killer) and Lee Boyd Malvo (DC Sniper). The Murder in Washington edition is segmented into eight categories including assassinations, historical legacies, premeditated homicides, chance encounters and impulse killings, law enforcement fatalities and controversies, unsolved murders, rampage and serial killers and killings. Within the context of examining each profile, many important issues are raised for discussion without necessarily culminating in resolution. These subjects include capital punishment, American racial perceptions, parental influences, child rearing, media reporting, public bias, juvenile sentencing, self-incrimination protections and the impartiality of our judicial system. Controversial options such as voluntary euthanasia for the condemned are suggested when examining the hopeless backlog of death row and life-term convicts. 'Murder in Washington: Notorious Crime Sites' is available for purchase in paperback and eBook formats through Amazon.com and at MurderInWashington.com. An extensive listing of fatality victims is included along with convicted and deceased killers. Each living convict still registered within the Washington state and other penal systems is identified by their respective current penitentiary residence. Cases Profiled (By Sequential Order and Category): Assassination Killings: Doug Carlile, Edwin Pratt, Laura Law and Tom Wales. Historical Legacies: Ann Marie Burr, Billy Gohl, Centralia Massacre, Charles Mattson, Chief Leschi of the Nisqually Tribe, Fred Ross and Jack Donnelly Boxing Exhibition, Everett Dockside Massacre and Sylvia Gaines. Chance Encounters and Impulse Killings David Lee Childs, Delbert Belton, John Lil Danger Castro, Little Willie John, Mia Zapata, Mike Webb, Mitchell Rupp, Nathan Trigger Gilstrap, Patrick Kevin Gibson, Edward Tuba Man McMichael, William Batten and the Wilson Family Killing.
