February is jam packed at Blue Note Hawaii, the state's premier venue for the world's most celebrated artists, starting off with a tribute to some of the world's most celebrated artists lost in 2016 by local singer/songwriter Tim Rose. Jazz songstress Karrin Allyson makes her Blue Note Hawaii debut for four nights, followed by soulful GRAMMY® Award-winning songwriter Marc Cohn. Other notable artists include Mike Izon, Tsun Hui Hung, Meleana Brown, Maryanne Ito, Tavana, Donavon Frankenreiter, Max V, Willie K, Blayne Asing, Israel Vibration & Roots Radics, Kaumakaiwa Kanaka'ole and DeAndre Brackensick.
NYU Skirball Center for the Performing Arts to Present TITICUT FOLLIES: THE BALLET

Titicut Follies: The Ballet, a world premiere ballet choregraphed by James Sewell and inspired byFrederick Wiseman's startling 1967 documentary, will run for three performances, April 28 - 30, 2017 at NYU Skirball Center for the Performing Arts. Titicut Follies: The Ballet will be performed by the James Sewell Ballet, with an original score by Lenny Pickett. A collaboration between Wiseman, Sewell and Pickett, the work is presented in conjunction with The Center for Ballet and the Arts at New York University.
Short Plays by Robert Patrick Showcased in HI-FI, WI-FI, SCI-FI Tonight at La MaMa

A series of short plays by Robert Patrick - author of the forward-thinking dramas CAMERA OBSCURA and ALL IN THE MIND, minimalist works from the 1960s and 1970s that questioned the future and presciently foreshadowed the cyber web we live in today - will be presented together as an evening-length work that immerses the viewer in technologies that were science fiction when the plays were originally written.

Phillip Glass to Hold Richard and Barbara Debs Composer's Chair at Carnegie Hall in Celebration of 80th Birthday

In celebration of his 80th birthday year, esteemed American composer Philip Glass has been appointed to hold the Richard and Barbara Debs Composer's Chair at Carnegie Hall for the 2017-2018 season. The yearlong residency will present performances that feature both Glass classics and premieres: American Composers Orchestra dedicates a program to composers inspired by Glass; the Philip Glass Ensemble and the San Francisco Girls Chorus perform his groundbreaking but rarely performed masterpiece, Music with Changing Parts, as part of the citywide festival The '60s: The Years that Changed America; notable premieres include a string quartet for the JACK Quartet and arrangements by composer Nico Muhly of lesser-known Glass songs-both Carnegie Hall commissions; additionally, the Louisiana Philharmonic andPacific Symphony both make their Carnegie Hall debuts in programs selected, in part, by Glass in response to invitations extended to U.S. orchestras to submit programs that place important works by the composer in illuminating contexts.
