The complete original cast from The Public Theater's acclaimed, sold-out production of the new American play ECLIPSED by Danai Gurira are reprising their roles on Broadway this spring. ECLIPSED, directed by Liesl Tommy, begins previews tonight, February 23, 2016, with opening night set for March 6, 2016 on Broadway at the Golden Theatre (252 W. 45th Street).

Playwrights Horizons, under the leadership of Artistic Director Tim Sanford and Managing Director Leslie Marcus, just announced the six productions of its 2016/2017 Season. The six new works will be presented at the theater company's home at 416 West 42nd Street.

Playwrights Horizons presents the New York premiere of FAMILIAR, a new play by Obie Award winner Danai Gurira, directed by Rebecca Taichman. Previews begin tonight, February 12 at Playwrights Horizons' Mainstage Theater (416 West 42nd Street). Producers Stephen C. Byrd and Alia Jones-Harvey recently that the critically acclaimed Broadway bound Eclipsed will today launch a campaign to bring 10,000 girls to see the show. Through the '10,000 Girls Campaign,' girls from the Tri-State area between ages 16 to 24, who would not otherwise have the opportunity to experience a Broadway show, will be given tickets to see Eclipsed. Though fans might know her as katana wielding Michonne on THE WALKING DEAD, actress Danai Gurira is about to make her Brodway debut as the playwright this march with ECLIPSED, starring oscar winning actress Lupita Nyong'o. All while that's going on, she also has an off broadway play, FAMILIAR, premiering soon, while simultaneously working on a pilot for HBO. It might seem like she's got too many things on her plate, but all of her projects stem from her passions. 

Following the successes of the first half of this season-from the multiple Helen Hayes Award nominations for Salome and Kiss Me, Kate, to the critical acclaim of The Critic and The Real Inspector Hound-Artistic Director Michael Kahn announced today the Shakespeare Theatre Company's 2016-2017 season. Kahn has put together a season of new debuts of both artists and works, and one with innovative adaptations and classic tragedies that continue STC's mission to re-think, re-work, and re-introduce classic texts and themes to its contemporary D.C. audiences.

Eclipsed makes history during Black History Month.  Holding the special distinction of being led by the only two African-American lead producers on Broadway, Stephen Byrd and Alia Jones-Harvey, Eclipsed will be the first show in Broadway history with an entirely female cast and creative team, and further: an entirely Black cast and creative team.  Eclipsed begins previews later this month.

The housekeeper barks a few commands and forces her into a back room. The opening scene of Underground Railway Theatre's must see production of The Convert, Danai Gurira's three hour intoxicating drama about 19th century Africa post-colonialism, is spoken in the native language of Shona. Although Shona is not commonly spoken in America, it is clear what we just witnessed. Freedom. Or so we believe.

      Playwrights Horizons has announced casting for ANTLIA PNEUMATICA, the world premiere of a new play by Anne Washburn (Mr. Burns, a post-electric play at PH; 10 Out of 12; Iphigenia at Aulis; The Internationalist), directed by two-time Obie Award winner Ken Rus Schmoll (Iowa at PH, The Internationalist, The Invisible Hand, Red Dog Howls, Middletown, What Once We Felt).  Commissioned by Playwrights Horizons, the play is the fifth production of the theater company's 2015/2016 Season.   

Primary Stages Einhorn School of Performing Arts (ESPA) just announced a week-long celebration of exciting collaborations and networking opportunities with artists including Tony Award winner Kelli O'Hara (The King & I, Bridges of Madison County), Emmy Award-winning actor and comedienne Judy Gold (HBO, Comedy Central, Clinton the Musical, 25 Questions..., The Judy Show), playwright Joshua Harmon (Bad Jews, Significant Other), Academy Award-winning writer Alexander Dinelaris (Co-writer, Birdman, Broadway's On Your Feet; Co-producer, The Revenant), and writer Cusi Cram (A Lifetime Burning, 'The Big C', 'Arthur').
