San Francisco Gay Men's Chorus to Open 36th Season with Annual CRESCENDO Gala, 10/13

San Francisco Gay Men's Chorus (SFGMC) announced Crescendo: The Next 35, to kick-off its 36th season,Illuminate, on Sunday, October 13, 2013, from 12 - 3 p.m. at the Four Seasons Hotel (757 Market Street, San Francisco). After a successful 35thanniversary season, Crescendo provides a sneak peek of the chorus' next 35 years. The Sunday brunch includes a preview of selections from the upcoming season, which will be packed with enlightening world premieres and dazzling divas, in some of the city's most beloved venues. With proceeds benefiting SFGMC, Crescendo includes a silent and live auction and an awards ceremony honoring the Tyler Clementi Foundation, KQED, and the Bob Ross Foundationfor their contributions to the LGBT community. Special guests include keynote speaker, James Clementi of the Tyler Clementi Foundation, with musical performances by opera diva and Adler Fellow Marina Harris, violin virtuoso Kevin Rogers and New York composer and singer Lance Horne. The Kennedy Center hosts its 12th annual Page-to-Stage new play festival from Saturday, August, 31 to Monday, September 2, 2013, featuring more than 40 theaters from the D.C. metropolitan area, all with a mission to produce and support new work. The three-day, Center-wide event offers a series of free readings and open rehearsals of plays and musicals being developed by local, regional, and national playwrights, librettists, and composers. The Brown University/Trinity Rep MFA Programs will present a dramatic reinvention of the Shakespearian classic Romeo and Juliet, directed by Ryan Purcell (Brown/Trinity Rep MFA Programs '13). Experience this timeless tale of forbidden passion in a new way: a world filled with violence, jealousy, and ultimately loss transformed. A 6-member cast of the Gay Men's Chorus of Los Angeles (GMCLA) will partner with the UW Chorale, from the University of Washington, and over the course of a one-week residency, these artists will collaborate with other local performers, citizens, and educational and government institutions in building a community performance responding to the issue of bullying in local schools, culminating with a staged musical program at The Moore Theatre on February 23rd.

With its unqualified support of all young people, It Gets Better creates and unites allies in solidarity against the pervasive (and growing) climate of bullying and teen violence.
