FX, basic cable's leader for scripted programming in the fall season, is continuing its strategy of launching new and returning original series in September and October.

FX has placed a 13-episode order for its next original drama series, American Horror Story, co-created by former Nip/Tuck executive producers and current Glee co-creators/executive producers Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk, announced John Landgraf, President and General Manager, FX Networks. American Horror Story begins production in Los Angeles on July 27 and will premiere on FX in October.

The nominations were released this morning for the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences 2011 Primetime Emmy Awards. Mad Men topped the list with 19 nominations, followed by Boardwalk Empire with 18, Modern Family with 17, Saturday Night Live with 16, Game of Thrones and 30 Rock with 13 and GLEE with 12. Production begins this week on Seeking a Friend for the End of the World, written and directed by Lorene Scafaria. The pre-apocalyptic comedy stars Golden Globe Award winner Steve Carell and Academy Award nominee Keira Knightley.

According to Deadline.com, Broadway veteran Jessica Lange has joined the cast of Ryan Murphy's new FX pilot 'American Horror Story.' Lange will star opposite previously announced Connie Britton and Denis O'Hare.

When the holiday season rolls around this winter, amidst the slew of holiday films will be 'When Angels Sing'. Based on the novel of the same name, the plot centers around a man whose holiday spirit dwindles inadvertently when he has a child; however, when his son faces a tragedy, he must recover the spirit that he lost, reports Variety.

On October 18th, Emmy nominee Connie Britton whose accolades include stand-out roles on shows such as Friday Night Lights, 24, The West Wing among others and Carla Gugino who is seen on Entourage, Watchmen, Night at the Museum and more will be hosting the internationally-acclaimed African Children's Choir as they perform at their annual fundraising gala. Joining them performing are some of Broadway's best from shows including Wicked, Lion King, Promises, Promises, In the Heights and Memphis with more to be announced. The Music Director for the event is Mary Mitchell Campbell. As Cy Coleman's protégé and currently the Music Director for Addams Family on Broadway right now, she will be adding her talent to this night. The night will not only showcase performances, but also an auction to help raise funds for The African Children's Choir.
