People's Light is delighted to announce the headliners for the upcoming world premiere of Lights Out: Nat 'King' Cole by Colman Domingo and Patricia McGregor, slated to open the Theatre's season in October 2017. Emmy-nominated actor Dule Hill (The West Wing) will play Cole, and Broadway regular Daniel J. Watts will appear as Sammy Davis, Jr.

People's Light is proud to announce Sanjit De Silva, James Ijames, Deepa Purohit, and Laura Schellhardt as the participating playwrights in the second round of the company's groundbreaking New Play Frontiers Residency & Commission program. The playwrights officially begin the program on July 9, 2017, in conjunction with the final performance of Project Dawn by Karen Hartman, the first New Play Frontiers play to premiere at People's Light. This second round of residencies and commissions, along with the production of Project Dawn, are made possible in part by the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation.

American Conservatory Theater (A.C.T.) Associate Artistic Director Andy Donald announced today the recipients of ArtShare, A.C.T.'s community space-sharing initiative, for the 2017-18 season. Created in 2012, the community space-sharing initiative provides free performance space for small and mid-sized companies without permanent performance space, as well as for independent artists, who would benefit from being in residence at one of A.C.T.'s spaces in the Central Market area. These spaces include The Costume Shop (1117 Market St.)-A.C.T.'s 49-seat black-box venue-and The Rueff, a multi-use event and performance space located at A.C.T.'s Strand Theater (1127 Market St.). The 2017-18 season of ArtShare is made possible by generous support from the Kenneth Rainin Foundation and the Zellerbach Family Foundation.

Yesterday, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced that it has invited 774 new members to join its prestigious ranks. The talented list marks the largest number of members ever invited, surpassing last year's previous record of 683.

Artistic Directors Douglas Aibel and Sarah Stern announce that Vineyard Theatre's 2017-2018 season will include the world premiere of THE AMATEURS by Jordan Harrison (2015 Pulitzer Prize finalist for MARJORIE PRIME) directed by Oliver Butler (THE OPEN HOUSE, Obie Award for Direction).
