Balancin' Productions presents the world premiere of Follow by Crystal Skillman tonight, October 19 through November 3, 2012 at Fanfare Theatre (100 East 4th Street, between First and Second Ave.). Daniel Talbott (Eightythree Down, Hard Sparks; The Umbrella Plays, the teacup company/FringeNYC - Overall Excellence Award: Outstanding Play and at The Tank) directs.

CSC's IVANOV, Starring Ethan Hawke, Begins Performances

Classic Stage Company's new production of Anton Chekhov's IVANOV, starring Ethan Hawke, Joely Richardson and Juliet Rylance, and directed by Austin Pendleton, begins previews Wednesday, October 17 at CSC (136 East 13th Street), prior to an official opening Sunday, November 4. IVANOV has extended its run by popular demand through Sunday, December 9. Hawke, in the title role, Richardson, who will play Anna, and Rylance, who will play Sasha, will be joined in IVANOV by Glenn Fitzgerald (Borkin), Annette Hunt (Avdotya Nazarovna), Stephanie Janssen (Babakina), Roberta Maxwell (Zinaida), George Morfogen (Shabelsky), James Patrick Nelson (Kosykh), Anthony Newfield (Guest), Jonathan Marc Sherman (Lvov), Anne Troupe (Gavrila) and Louis Zorich (Lebedev).

Is Antigone Pro Life? Two plays in rotating repertory raise challenging questions about Sophocles' signature Heroine. Columbia Stages partners with Extant Arts Company to court controversy in ANTIGONE/PROGENY, a new translation of Sophocles' classic work with a world premiere adaptation for the 21st century. The new translation of Antigone and the original play Progeny will run in repertory tonight, October 17 - 20, 2012 at the Riverside Theater.

Columbia Stages partners with Extant Arts Company to present ANTIGONE/PROGENY, a new translation of Sophocles's classic work paired with a world-premiere adaptation for the 21st century. The new translation of ANTIGONE and the original play PROGENY will run in repertory October 17 - 20, 2012 at The Riverside Theater.

Barry Edelstein Appointed Artistic Director of The Old Globe

The Board of Directors of The Old Globe today announced the appointment of Barry Edelstein as Artistic Director. A nationally-recognized director, producer, author and educator, Edelstein will work together with Managing Director Michael G. Murphy to lead San Diego's flagship arts institution. Both Edelstein and Murphy will report jointly to the Board of Directors. Currently the Director of The Public Theater's Shakespeare Initiative in New York City, Edelstein will assume the artistic directorship of The Old Globe on Nov. 1 and will reside full-time in San Diego in January 2013.

Nathan Englander Talks THE TWENTY-SEVENTH MAN at NYPL, 10/18

Novelist Nathan Englander discusses his new play, The Twenty-Seventh Man, with the theater director Barry Edelstein, in a conversation moderated by the journalist Alexis Soloski. Set in a Russian prison in 1952, the play is adapted from one of Englander's stories in the collection For the Relief of Unbearable Urges. It will be performed at The Public Theater from November 7 to December 9.

The Public Theater (Artistic Director Oskar Eustis; Executive Director Patrick Willingham) announced complete casting today for the world premiere of THE TWENTY-SEVENTH MAN by Nathan Englander. Directed by Barry Edelstein, THE TWENTY-SEVENTH MAN begins previews on Wednesday, November 7 in The Public's Martinson Theater and will run through Sunday, December 9. The official press opening, originally scheduled for Monday, November 19, will now take place on Sunday, November 18. Single tickets, beginning at $75, are on sale now. The complete cast of THE TWENTY-SEVENTH MAN features Happy Anderson (Guard), Byron Jennings (The Agent in Charge), Daniel Oreskes (Moishe Bretzky), Ron Rifkin (Yevgeny Zunser), Noah Robbins (Pinchas Pelovits), and Chip Zien (Vasily Korinsky).

Michael Sexton Directs HENRY V at Two River Theater, 10/20-11/11

WNO Opens Three World Premieres for American Opera Initiative, 11/19

Washington National Opera (WNO) will present the world premieres of three new 20-minute operas on Monday, November 19, 2012 at 7:30 p.m. in the Kennedy Center Terrace Theater: The Game of Hearts by composer Douglas Pew and librettist Dara Weinberg, Part of the Act by composer Liam Wade and librettist John Grimmett, and Charon by composer Scott Perkins and librettist Nat Cassidy. The three operas, each highlighting American culture and themes, are the first new works created under the auspices of the American Opera Initiative, WNO's new commissioning program.
