Just last week, Cameron Mackintosh and Andrew Lloyd Webber's Really Useful Group announced the casting and initial tour schedule for their spectacular new production of Andrew Lloyd Webber's The Phantom of the Opera launching a major North American Tour in Providence, R.I. at the Providence Performing Arts Center. With newly reinvented staging and stunning scenic design, this new version of PHANTOM, the most successful musical of all-time, will be performed by a cast and orchestra of 52, making this one of the largest productions on tour in North America. The 92nd season of the New York Philharmonic Young People's Concerts (YPCs) will be launched tonight, October 12, 2013, at 2:00 p.m. Philharmonic Assistant Conductor Case Scaglione will lead selections from all four movements of Beethoven's Symphony No. 9. This is the first program in this season's series, Points of Entry, in which each concert explores facets of music and the orchestra itself through a single, influential score. The performance will feature the Manhattan School of Music Symphonic Chorus, Kent Tritle, director.

Norm Lewis and Jeremy Jordan will join Cyrille Aimée and Bernadette Peters in Stephen Sondheim and Wynton Marsalis's A BED AND A CHAIR: A New York Love Affair, a new musical event featuring Sondheim's music arranged and performed by the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis. This Encores! Special Event, directed by frequent Sondheim collaborator John Doyle, with choreography by Parker Esse and musical supervision by David Loud, was conceived by Peter Gethers, Jack Viertel and John Doyle,and will run for seven performances, November 13 – 17 at City Center.
New York City Opera May Have Potential Deal?

New York City Opera filed for bankruptcy-court protection last week after failing to meet their financial needs. The opera had announced that it needed $7 million by the end of September to mount its full season and an additional $13 million by the end of the year. Unfortunately, they were unable to reach that goal.

InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) today announces that the Holiday Inn Express brand is expanding in Brazil with the openings of the Holiday Inn Express Belem-Ananindeua hotel, the Holiday Inn Express Porto Velho hotel and the Holiday Inn Express Marilia hotel expected to open later this year. IHG also has plans for a new-build Holiday Inn Express Manaus hotel, scheduled to open in 21.

The Met: Live in HD series continues on the big screen for the eighth consecutive season on October 26 at 12:55 pm ET with Shostakovich's The Nose. William Kentridge stormed the Met with his inventive production of Shostakovich's opera, which dazzled opera and art lovers alike in its inaugural run in 2010. Paulo Szot reprises his acclaimed performance of a bureaucrat, whose satirical misadventures in search of his missing nose are based on Gogol's comic story. Valery Gergiev conducts. An encore presentation will also show in movie theaters on October 30 at 6:30pm.
