Contra Costa Musical Theatre will add another local premiere when it presents Andrew Lloyd Webber's lushly romantic Sunset Boulevard at Walnut Creek's Lesher Center for the Arts, March 16 through April 15, 2012. Tickets for Sunset Boulevard range from $44 to $49 (with discounts available for seniors and students, and special group rates) and are on sale now at the Lesher Center for the Arts Ticket Office, 1601 Civic Drive in Walnut Creek, 925.943.SHOW (943-7469). Andrew Lloyd Webber is developing a musical about the Stephen Ward, the man who introduced call girl Christine Keeler to war secretary John Profumo. The resulting Profumo Affair scandal began the end of Harold MacMillan's government in 1960s Britain. According to a post by Michael Riedel on nypost.com, SUNSET BOULEVARD scriptwriter Christopher Hampton may be asked to write the script for Lloyd Webber's new project.

At the end of January, the producers of REBECCA, the new musical based on the classic novel by Daphne Du Maurier novel (later turned into an Oscar-winning film by Alfred Hitchcock) announced that the production would be postponed until next season. The Village Voice's Michael Musto is reporting that the show might be making its Broadway debut sooner than expected. Musto writes: 'They have started rehearsing again and they plan to take over the Broadhurst Theatre when A Streetcar Named Desire exits.'

Written by Yasmina Reza and translated by Christopher Hampton, this scathing comedy is a recent major motion picture release (Carnage, directed by Roman Polanski and starring Jodie Foster and Kate Winslet). Director Joe Dowling today announced the three plays that will comprise the Guthrie's 2012 celebration of prolific British playwright, screenwriter and director Christopher Hampton. A Guthrie commission of Appomattox, a new play based upon Hampton's original 2007 opera collaboration with composer Philip Glass, will be joined by Tales from Hollywood and Total Eclipse.
