Arthur Darvill & Laurence Fox Set for OUR BOYS, Beginning Previews at Duchess Theatre, Sept 26

Written from his own experience, Jonathan Lewis's Our Boys is a wonderfully funny yet searingly honest account of the tribulations, tedium and terror that young soldiers face when recovering from injuries incurred in the line of duty. It opens for a limited 12-week season at the Duchess Theatre on Wednesday 3 October, with previews from tonight, Wednesday 26 September. The cast features Arthur Darvill (Rory in Doctor Who) and Laurence Fox (James in Lewis).

Kicking off its 50th season, Minneapolis' own Guthrie Theater debuted Christopher Hampton's, TALES FROM HOLLYWOOD, a dizzyingly dark and absurdist comedy of the lives and work of Bertolt Brecht, Heinrich and Thomas Mann, and their emigre (or more appropriately-exiled) novelists and screen-writers as they flee Nazi-occupied Europe for Los Angeles. Fascism, capitalism and the role of the writer are at odds as director, Ethan McSweeny, cleverly weaves historical insight into this 'film within a play' staging style, taking audiences on a whirlwind of philosophical discourse and witty banter.

Today Minneapolis Mayor R.T. Rybak and St. Paul Mayor Chris Coleman issued a joint proclamation declaring September 21, 2012, Christopher Hampton Day in both cities. The announcement comes on the same day as the opening of Hampton's Tales from Hollywood on the Wurtele Thrust Stage at the Guthrie, the beginning of the Guthrie's celebration of Hampton's work and the first show of its 50th season.

REBECCA, the new musical based on the classic novel by Daphne du Maurier novel, has delayed the start of its rehearsals by two weeks due to the death of a key investor responsible for a $4.5 million investment pool in the production . The Film Society of Minneapolis St. Paul and the Guthrie today announced a new partnership that will link the two organizations in an ongoing series of film screenings and programming that will provide a new home for the popular filmed-theater series NT Live originating from the National Theatre of London, as well as films selected and curated by the Film Society inspired by the Guthrie's upcoming 2012-2013 season, its 50th. All films in the partnership will be screened at the Film Society's St. Anthony Main Theatre, located at 115 SE Main Street in Minneapolis.
