The Shakespeare Theatre Company welcomes the Theatre de l'Atelier's production of Les Liaisons Dangereuses, directed by John Malkovich, to Washington, D.C. This French-revival stageplay, presented with English surtitles and adapted to a 21st century setting, runs from tonight, December 6-9, 2012 in the Company's Lansburgh Theatre (450 7th Street, NW).

According to The Telegraph, Downton Abbey star Laura Carmichael took the stage to some harsh words from the audience in her debut in Anton Chekhov's Uncle Vanya at the West End's Vaudeville Theatre on November 2nd. What's even more surprising is that the critical exclamation came from former director of the National Theatre Sir Peter Hall.

Adapted by Christopher Hampton, Uncle Vanya uniquely blends sparkling wit and earthy humour to brilliant comic effect. Directed by Lindsay Posner with designs by Christopher Oram, this new production opens at the Vaudeville Theatre on 2 November 2012 with previews from 24 October.

Yasmina Reza is not known for creating comedic characters. She is known for creating extremely real and flawed characters that in their truth are incredibly comedic. There is a very nuanced but very real difference there. It is unfortunate that Nickell could not make heads or tails of this…because he had the talent in his cast to deliver it flawlessly.
