When the sad news came out this morning that famed Disney songwriter Robert B. Sherman died yesterday, March 5, in London, some of our first thoughts here at BroadwayWorld went out to Tony-winner Marc Shaiman. Shaiman had been a huge proponent of the incredible 'THE BOYS - The Sherman Brothers' Story' documentary and it was his enthusiasm that sent us off to see the fantastic film, and our lives were better off for it. We asked Marc to put together some of his thoughts on Robert Sherman and are proud to present them below.

Celebrity judges for the sixth annual The Broadway Beauty Pageant have been announced. Jackie Hoffman (The Addams Family), pop culture columnist Michael Musto, and Tonya Pinkins (Caroline, or Change) have been tapped to judge the event which will take place on Monday evening, March 19th, at 8p.m. at Symphony Space (2537 Broadway at 95th St.). The popular event is the annual benefit of New York's Ali Forney Center.

Sundance Institute has announced the first-ever New York benefit celebrating its Theatre Program, the leading play development program in the United States. Taking place on the evening of Monday, March 12 at venues in lower Manhattan, the event will be hosted by Sundance Institute President & Founder Robert Redford and feature performances by some of the theatre world's top talent, who are also Sundance Institute alumni.

The Public Theater announced today that Tituss Burgess, John Ellison Conlee, Lili Cooper, Matt Doyle, Renee Elise Goldsberry, Greg Hildreth, Eli James, Celia Keenan-Bolger, Justin Levine, Norm Lewis, Betsy Morgan, Jessica Phillips, Bobby Steggert, and Katie Thompson will join the star-studded PUBLIC SINGS! benefit on Monday, March 5 at Joe's Pub. Vocalists Liz Callaway and Ann Hampton Callaway star in BOOM!, their sisterly tribute to the baby boom generation, at Pepperdine University's Smothers Theatre in Malibu at 8 p.m. on Friday, March 23.
