Today in 1980, the first Broadway revival of Camelot opened at the New York State Theatre, where it ran for 56 performances. Camelot is a musical by Alan Jay Lerner (book and lyrics) and Frederick Loewe (music). It is based on the King Arthur legend as adapted from the T. H. White tetralogy novel The Once and Future King. The original 1960 production, directed by Moss Hart and orchestrated by Robert Russell Bennett and Philip J. Lang, ran on Broadway for 873 performances, winning four Tony Awards and spawning several revivals, foreign productions and a 1967 film version. The 1980 cast starred Richard Burton, Christine Ebersole, and Richard Muenz.

After a three-year absence, Gerard Alessandrini's Forbidden Broadway returns to the 47th Street Theatre with a brand new edition, Forbidden Broadway: ALIVE AND KICKING. The show, which opens Thursday, September 6, will run for a limited engagement through January 6, 2013. Previews begin on July 24th. BroadwayWorld has learned that Jenny Lee Stern, Natalie Charle Ellis, Scott Richard Foster and Marcus Stevens will all star in the show.

Manhattan Theatre Club celebrated Artistic Director Lynne Meadow's 40th anniversary as the visionary and artistic leader of the organization with a special tribute last night, June 18. The event will began at 6:30 PM with a VIP cocktail reception, followed by a 7:30 tribute event at the Samuel J. Friedman and a party at Copacabana. Yesterday, June 5, theatre legend Patti LuPone opened the new nightclub and restaurant, 54 Below, with a two-week engagement of a new act that will run through June 16. LuPone will play the venue Tuesdays through Saturdays at 8pm and Fridays and Saturdays at 11pm. The 2012 66th Annual Tony Awards will be simulcast live to Times Square on Sunday, June 10th. The event, sponsored by Official Beauty Partner of the Tony Awards, Nexxus Salon Hair Care, will be hosted by 2004 Tony Award winning musical, AVENUE Q puppets Rod and Lucy. The Tony Awards, in partnership with the Times Square Alliance and Clear Channel Spectacolor will air the Tony Awards Red Carpet courtesy of NY1 and the entirety of the Tony Awards show, including the Creative Arts Awards, on Clear Channel's SpectacolorHD screen in Times Square on Sunday, June 10th, from 6:00 p.m. - 11:00 p.m.

TBS has given the greenlight to two new comedy series as the network undergoes an expansion of its original series lineup. TBS has ordered six episodes of DEON COLE'S BLACK BOX, starring CONAN writer and performer Deon Cole. The network has also ordered nine episodes of WHO GETS THE LAST LAUGH?, a new series from Punk'd co-creators Jason Goldberg and Ashton Kutcher.
