The Met Announces Free Summer HD Festival Lineup: THE TEMPEST, AIDA & More!

The Met's Summer HD Festival returns for its fifth year on August 24, with ten free outdoor screenings of popular performances from the Met's award-winning Live in HD series. The festival, which more than 40,000 people attended last year, kicks off with a screening of the Met's acclaimed production of Verdi's La Traviata starring Natalie Dessay, Matthew Polenzani, and Dmitri Hvorostovsky.

NY Philharmonic's Very Young Composers Program Comes to Vail, Now thru 7/25

The New York Philharmonic will bring its Credit Suisse Very Young Composers program to Vail for the sixth season, from July 16-25, during the Orchestra's residency with Bravo! Vail. The Very Young Composers of Vail - a project of the New York Philharmonic in collaboration with Bravo! Vail - will include a series of workshops for children ages 9-13, including demonstrations with Philharmonic musicians, culminating in two concerts of original works created and orchestrated by the young composers and performed by musicians from the Philharmonic. The performances, free and open to the public, will take place at the Vail Public Library on Thursday, July 24 and the Avon Public Library on Friday, July 25, both at 2:00 p.m.

New York Philharmonic Kicks off 2013 Concerts in the Parks Today

The 2013 New York Philharmonic Concerts in the Parks, Presented by Didi and Oscar Schafer, will return for the 48th season with five free outdoor concerts, conducted by Music Director Alan Gilbert, in Prospect Park, Brooklyn (today, July 10); Cunningham Park, Queens (July 11); the Great Lawn in Central Park, Manhattan (July 13 and 15); and Van Cortlandt Park, Bronx (July 16). In addition, the New York Philharmonic Brass will give a Free Indoor Concert at the Center for the Arts, College of Staten Island, CUNY (July 14).

COMPANY at Signature Theatre is electrifying and brilliant. Director Eric Schaeffer's return to COMPANY - after 20 years - may well be considered among his finest directorial achievements. Sondheim is often called 'Signature's signature.' COMPANY, now playing through June 30, shows us why. If we gave out stars at Broadway World, I'd give them ten for COMPANY.

Music Director James Levine Leads The MET Orchestra at Carnegie Hall Today

The MET Orchestra concludes its 2012-2013 season at Carnegie Hall with the much anticipated return of Music Director James Levine leading the orchestra today, May 19 at 3:00 p.m. in Stern Auditorium / Perelman Stage. Maestro Levine is set to conduct the prelude to Act I of Wagner's Lohengrin; Schubert's Symphony No. 9, 'Great'; and Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 4 in G Major, Op. 58, with pianist Evgeny Kissin. Maestro Levine last performed at Carnegie Hall with the MET Orchestra on Sunday, April 10, 2011 with Mr. Kissin.

Transport Group to Present THE MEMORY SHOW, Starring Leslie Kritzer and Catherine Cox, Beginning 4/16

Transport Group, the Drama Desk and OBIE award-winning theatre company, has announced that the New York premiere of a new musical, The Memory Show, book and lyrics by Sara Cooper; music by Zach Redler; directed by Joe Calarco, will begin performances Tuesday, April 16, at 7pm at The Duke on 42nd Street, a New 42nd Street project, at 229 West 42nd Street. The Memory Show features Catherine Cox and Leslie Kritzer. Opening night is scheduled for Tuesday, April 30 at 7pm.

Musically, 'Carousel' is by far the most intelligently written and sophisticated of the entire Rodgers and Hammerstein canon. The story and some of the lyrics may betray just a hint of datedness, but not enough to undermine the brilliance of the work, even approaching seventy years after it was written.
