Second Stage Theatre 2016 Uptown Series' production of ENGAGEMENTS has been extended by one week and will now play through Saturday, August 20.

Second Stage Theatre (Carole Rothman, Artistic Director; Christopher Burney, Uptown Curator and Associate Artistic Director) will present the world premiere of Chisa Hutchinson's SOMEBODY'S DAUGHTER, , as part of the company's fifteenth annual SECOND STAGE THEATRE UPTOWN SERIES next summer. SOMEBODY'S DAUGHTER recently made the 2016 Kilroy List, designated as one of 32 distinguished new plays by female and trans playwrights.

The Harold and Mimi Steinberg Charitable Trust today announced that the Ninth Annual "Mimi" Awards will be presented on Monday, November 14, 2016 at Lincoln Center Theater.  The "Mimi" Awards are presented annually to honor the outstanding artistry and accomplishments of some of the most gifted American playwrights.

Second Stage Theatre (Carole Rothman, Artistic Director, Casey Reitz, Executive Director) has announced complete casting for its upcoming world premiere production of THE LAYOVER, written by Leslye Headland and directed by Trip Cullman, who collaborated on Second Stage Uptown's hit comedy Bachelorette.

The American Theatre Wing (Heather Hitchens, President) and The Village Voice (Peter Barbey, Owner) have announced the winners of the 61st Annual Obie Awards. Rajiv Joseph's Guards at the Taj, produced by the Atlantic Theater Company, received the Obie Award® for Best New American Play, which is accompanied by a $1,000 prize. Legendary actor/dancer/choreographer Carmen de Lavallade and renowned playwright A.R. Gurney each received a special Obie Award® for Lifetime Achievement. Obie and Screen Actors Guild® Award-winning actress Lea DeLaria returned as host of this year's ceremony, which was held at Webster Hall (125 East 11th Street).

The Drama League (Executive Artistic Director, Gabriel Shelian-Shanks) gathers today for the 82nd Annual Drama League Awards Ceremony, hosted by 2016 Tony® Award-nominees, Zachary Levi (She Loves Me) and Megan Hilty (Noises Off), in the Broadway Ballroom at the Marriott Marquis Times Square (1535 Broadway).

Second Stage Theatre, in association with Stacey MindichProductions, just last night opened the new musical, Dear Evan Hansen, featuring Ben Platt as the title character. Also reprising their performances from the 'splendid (Marks, Washington Post) DC cast are Laura Dreyfuss as Zoe, Mike Faist as Connor, Rachel Bay Jones as Heidi, Will Roland as Jared, Jennifer Laura Thompson as Cynthia. New cast members John Dossett (Larry) and Kristolyn Lloyd (Alana) complete the company.

The 2016 Drama League Award Nominees for Outstanding Play, Outstanding Revival of a Play, Outstanding Musical, Outstanding Revival of a Musical, and the much-coveted Distinguished Performance Award were just announced this morning at Sardi's, by Aladdin stars Adam Jacobs, Courtney Reed and James Monroe Iglehart. Second Stage Theatre's 37th Anniversary Gala celebration will honor Producer DAVID STONE, celebrating his ongoing 12 year relationship with the Off-Broadway Company.  The evening's Honorary Chair is James M. Nederlander and the Co-Chairs are Marc Platt, Patrick Catullo, and Nancy Coyne.  The gala evening, which will be directed by James Lapine, will be held on Monday, May 2, 2016 at Cipriani 42nd Street.  The evening's entertainment, which will feature stars who have appeared in Stone's productions over the years, will be announced at a later date.  This is the first time Second Stage's annual gala will be honoring a Broadway producer.

Second Stage's New York premiere production of INVISIBLE THREAD such opened at the Tony Kiser Theatre (305 W 43rd Street). Tony Award winner Diane Paulus directs the new musical production, written by Matt Gould andGriffin Matthews. Darrell Grand Moultrie co-choreographs with Sergio Trujillo as choreographer.
