Piano phenomenon Elio Villafranca will bring the next generation of his popular "Letters to Mother Africa" concerts, the second in his series on the African continent's powerful influence on jazz and folk Cuban music, to Aaron Davis Hall at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, March 31.

The Cooperstown Summer Music Festival will present four performances as part of its 8th annual Pro Am Performance Seminar. The Pro Am is a week-long program of rehearsals, coaching sessions, and performances led by Festival artistic director and flutist Linda Chesis; Shirley Irek, piano; Nilko Andreas, guitar; Hyung Suk Bae, cello; and Janet Sung, violin. These award-winning artists have performed worldwide. They will rehearse intensively and then perform with accomplished non-career musicians who come from across the country: Martha Somach, flute; Bruce Harris, piano; Mark Ptashne, violin; Jonathan Phillips, viola; and Barbara Gaden, cello.

Within a year, America was listening in on popular radio shows throughout the country to hear what would become 'The greatest swing band in all the land!' The Off Broadway production was the impetus for a renewal of interest in the show. Although it closed early, that chamber production, which was performed on a standard proscenium stage, proved that the brand still had widespread audience appeal.

How many concerts feature a neurosurgeon, a judge, a color scientist and a molecular biologist performing with professional artists? That's what happens at the Cooperstown Summer Music Festival Pro Am. The performances, which will include works by Mendelssohn, Mozart, Haydn, Brahms and Reynaldo Hahn, will take place June 23 in Edmeston, June 24 in Cherry Valley, and June 25 at Hyde Hall.

It was announced today during a live appearance from the stage of the Brooks Atkinson Theatre, that Multi-Platinum recording artist and actress Vanessa Williams is set to join the roster of 'Special Guest Star' vocalists in the critically acclaimed Broadway musical, After Midnight. Williams will play performances from Tuesday, April 1, 2014 through Sunday, May 11, 2014 at theBrooks Atkinson Theatre (256 W 47th Street). Directed and choreographed by Warren Carlyle, After Midnight began preview performances on Friday, October 18, 2013, and opened to rave reviews on Sunday, November 3, 2013.

Just yesterday, producers Scott Sanders and Wynton Marsalis announced the roster of musicians who will form the Jazz at Lincoln Center All-Stars and play nightly on Broadway in the new musical After Midnight. Hand-picked by Marsalis, Jazz at Lincoln Center's nine-time Grammy and Pulitzer Prize Award-winning Artistic Director, the band includes 17 of the finest soloists and ensemble players in the music world today. Directed and choreographed by Warren Carlyle, After Midnight begins preview performances at the Brooks Atkinson Theatre (256 West 47th Street) on Friday, October 18, 2013 with an official opening night set for Sunday, November 3, 2013.

The Pro Am, now in its sixth year, can trace its roots to an unplanned meeting at a local ice cream shop, when Festival artistic director and founder Linda Chesis and Bruce and Mona Harris discussed the possibility of having non-career musicians participate in the Festival. Bruce Harris, a neurosurgeon at Bassett Healthcare in Cooperstown, is also an accomplished pianist.
