Mandy Gonzalez, back by popular demand, returned to 54 Below last night, May 15 (9:30PM), in Love, All Ways- A Musical Retrospective of Triumph and Hilarity. Gonzalez, star of Broadway's Wicked, In the Heights, Lennon and more,performed an unforgettable evening of great music and hilarity, all revolving around love and its crazy themes and variations. The Broadway at Birdland concert series has announced that writer/performer/director Ben Rimalower will host The Lady's Got Potential, an evening of songs and conversation with some of the most exciting up and coming actresses working in musical theater today. The event will take place on Monday, April 7 at 7pm.

Manhattan Association of Cabarets and Clubs (MAC), dedicated to advancing the art and business of live entertainment, has announced the nominees for the 2014 MAC Awards. Having just recently just moved from Los Angeles, Samia's last sold-out debut at Joe's Pub rocked Gotham and now she is back tonight, July 9th for her 2nd special appearance.

The event should have been titled '520 Mondays.' On Monday, July 1, Birdland celebrated the tenth anniversary of 'Jim Caruso's Cast Party,' the unique and very extreme weekly open mic. Gianni Valenti, the owner of the historic music room, honored host Caruso with a Seth Walters portrait on the wall, usually reserved for jazz icons. (Caruso quipped, 'Somewhere, Charlie Parker is very uncomfortable.')

Only two nights removed from the last of my three solo debut shows at the Metropolitan Room celebrating the Don McLean Songbook, I was already experiencing the post-performance depression I'd heard tell about from cabaret veterans. I needed someone to lift me up where I belonged, so my instincts took me to Birdland for another trip through memory lane with Nostalgic Natalie Douglas. The last time I had heard the dynamic Ms. Douglas was 14 months before when she powered her way through her historically and politically passionate Freedom Songs. This time, Natalie's nostalgic trip was a much more personal adventure she called Scrapbook 2.0, which traversed everything from the musical influences of her late parents to the tunes she loved while growing up in Southern California. By the time Douglas was finished flipping the pages of her musical scrapbook--and delivering some adorably homey stories along with them--my gloom had been transformed into gladness.
