Nashville Opera presents the final production of its 30th Anniversary Season, Georges Bizet's Carmen. Directed by John Hoomes, Nashville Opera's Artistic Director, the two performances will include the Nashville Symphony conducted by Maestro James Meena, Opera Carolina's General Director and Principal Conductor.
Houston Grand Opera Announces its 2011-12 Season

Houston Grand Opera General Director and CEO Anthony Freud announced the company's 2011-2012 season today. Opening on October 21, 2011, the season offers thirty-two performances of six operas. 'We've chosen an exciting array of operas that will thrill, stimulate and entertain,' says Freud. It is a season of momentous anniversaries for the Metropolitan Opera Guild: the Guild began the season-long celebration of its 75th anniversary this fall; as publisher of Opera News, the Guild celebrates the magazine's own diamond anniversary in 2011; and the January issue of Opera News marks the 40th anniversary of James Levine's Metropolitan Opera debut (which was June 5, 1971, conducting Tosca). The cover feature sees Scott Rose take on the difficult task of choosing 40 highlights from Levine's 40 storied years at the Met.

LA Opera's productions of rarely performed works as part of the Company's Recovered Voices series conducted by Music Director James Conlon were filmed for release on DVD and Blu-ray. The 2008 double-bill of Alexander Zemlinsky's Der Zwerg (The Dwarf) and Viktor Ullmann's Der zerbrochene Krug (The Broken Jug) is available now, and the 2009 presentation of Walter Braunfels' Die Vögel (The Birds) will be released on November 16, 2010. The videos, released on the Arthaus Musik label, will be distributed by Naxos Music.

Bizet's Carmen will return to the Metropolitan Opera on November 4 in Richard Eyre's critically acclaimed production, featuring star mezzo-soprano El?na Garan?a as the alluring Gypsy seductress; rising tenor Brandon Jovanovich as her lover and victim, Don José; Nicole Cabell as the innocent Micaëla; and John Relyea, singing the toreador Escamillo for the first time at the Met. Kate Aldrich will sing the title role of Carmen on April 28 and May 1, replacing Angela Gheorghiu who has withdrawn from those performances. Gheorghiu issued the following statement: 'To make so important a debut as Carmen, I want to be as prepared dramatically as I am musically. Therefore, I will postpone my role debut until a later date when I can work intensely with the Richard Eyre production.'
