Joe's Pub has announced its upcoming events.

The Public Theater (Oskar Eustis, Artistic Director; Joey Parnes Interim Executive Director) has just announced the complete line-up for the third Public Forum event of the season, 'Does Culture Make Us Who We Are?' This dynamic evening, hosted by Anne Hathaway and in association with the Aspen Institute Arts Program, will feature noted author and New York Times columnist David Brooks; Dr. Mary Schmidt Campbell, the Dean of the Tisch School of the Arts and the Vice-Chair of the President's Committee on the Arts and Humanities; Bill Irwin, acclaimed actor currently playing The Fool in The Public's production of King Lear; and Damian Woetzel, former principal dancer at New York City Ballet and the new Director of the Aspen Institute Arts Program. The evening will also feature remarks by Public Theater Artistic Director Oskar Eustis on the arts and our democracy. Tickets, priced at $25, are on sale now.

La MaMa is set to present Clowns Ex Machina in the World Premiere of Clowns Full-Tilt: A Musing on Aesthetics, created and directed by Kendall Cornell.

If Hamlet is the reward an actor gets for showing great promise in his youth, King Lear is the thank you he receives in the latter years of a distinguished career.  At age 35, Sam Waterston's Hamlet became one of the iconic performances to come out of the New York Shakespeare Festival.  Now, at 71, The Public Theater's gift for his decades of admirable stage work is the opportunity to essay the maddening royal whose rages against a perceived betrayal by the mosT Loving of his three daughters sets in motion the bloody collapse of a monarchy.  Unfortunately, the gift has not been wrapped very attractively.

The Public Theater will present Bill Irwin and Doug Skinner in Late Night Foolin' at Joe's Pub on Thursday, November 17 at 11:30 p.m. for one night only. King Lear company members Kelli O'Hara and Michael McKean are expected to take the stage for some brief musical moments, and the evening will also include a roast of Sam Waterston.

Clowns Ex Machina is a 9-woman clown troupe that includes performers from all over the world. Clowns Full-Tilt: A Musing on Aesthetics runs from November 4 - 20, 2011 in a limited engagement at La MaMa's First Floor Theatre, located at 74A East 4th Street between 2nd Avenue & the Bowery in New York City. The recipient of the first-ever ELLEN STEWART AWARD -- the Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Sam Shepard -- has chosen young playwright Matthew Paul Olmos as the initial participant in the new award being presented this season by La MaMa, it was announced at La MaMa 50th Gala celebrating the start of the internationally-renowned theatre's 50th anniversary season, held on Monday, October 17 at the Ellen Stewart Theatre (66 E. 4 St.) in Manhattan.

The annual event, which celebrates The New Victory Education Program, began with a performance honoring Henson at The New Victory Theater, 209 West 42nd Street. Tony Award nominee John Tartaglia (Avenue Q) hosted the evening featuring Joey Arias in a performance directed by Basil Twist; from 'Sesame Street' Big Bird and Telly Monster; cast members from Cummins and Scoullar's The Little Prince; Heather Henson and IBEX Puppetry; Tony Award winner Bill Irwin; Ralph Lee's Mettawee River Theatre Company; dancer/choreographer David Neumann; On the Lam Street Band; and the Reduced Shakespeare Company.
