Martin Sheen & Olympia Dukakis Set for Living Theater Benefit, 12/18

Acclaimed actors Martin Sheen and Olympia Dukakis, legendary rock musician Ray Manzarek of The Doors, and poets Michael McClure and Anne Waldman are set to join Judith Malina and other artists for a one-night-only gala to benefit The Living Theatre on Friday, December 18, beginning with cocktails and dinner at 6pm, followed by a program of music and performance at The Players Club (16 Gramercy Park South) in Manhattan.

Stifters Dinge, created by the innovative German composer/director Heiner Goebbels, is the latest of his works to stretch the boundaries of live performance. The 70-minute-long sonic performance landscape was inspired by the writings of 19th-century Austrian romantic novelist Adalbert Stifter extended and minutely-detailed descriptions of nature. The title translates as 'Stifters Things.'

Woolly Mammoth Theatre Company continues Season 30, the 2009-10 Season, with a four-week run of The Last Cargo Cult, the newest monologue created and performed by acclaimed monologist Mike Daisey (If You See Something Say Something, How Theater Failed America), directed by Jean-Michele Gregory. (The Last Cargo Cult recently opened at The Public Theater in New York and plays there through December 13).
