ANTROBUS & GONE to Play The Brick in August, Opens 8/13

Two short plays, two endings, two new beginnings. This year's collection of shows from Gemini CollisionWorks, The Collisionworks 2011: At The Ends (aka 3 Terminal Plays or 3 Ultimate Plays), focuses on finality, mortality, and the conclusion of all things, with the caveat that each tragic ending can bring the possibility of a glorious new beginning. These two plays, at turns both funny and heartbreaking, face the reality of their terminal endings with a smile and the belief that there will always be someone left to carry on, remember history, and start again.

At the end of a Nation. The United States, 50, maybe 70 years from now, tops. The country is ruled by geographic/corporate fiefdoms that can't hold the place together anymore (and a practically non-existent government), with a populace so overwhelmed by technological future shock and infotaining bread & circuses that it has lapsed into near-catatonia, and can no longer actually do anything anymore.

The city of Loudon, unlike most of the country, is at peace. While religious wars swept the country and kept the Protestants and the Catholics at each others' throats, the sects live and have lived together without incident in the city for years, primarily due to the charismatic priest Father Urbain Grandier, who acts as a kind of second Governor of the town, loved and respected (despite his frequent and well-known personal transgressions, mostly involving the women of Loudon), but also due to its secure battlements, which keep the city separate and self-sustaining (and whose security has been guaranteed by King Louis the XIII).

In theater, audiences and artists are always confronted with the immediate moment - the perpetual 'now.' But what if we're not ready? What if we need a few more minutes to take a deep breath and ask ourselves: Is it too soon to make jokes about your friend's abortion? Is it too soon to give up on a failed government?
