Karen Mason, acclaimed vocalist and Broadway veteran, is bringing her one-woman show Secrets of the Ancient Divas to the Haft Theater at FIT on Friday, December 12 at 2pm. Produced by Healing Arts Initiative (HAI) and co-sponsored by the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs and Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, Ms. Mason will pay homage to her personal idols, performing the songs of such iconic singers as Judy Garland, Peggy Lee, Barbra Streisand and more.

The Cuban-born, Miami resident-now well-known for successfully staging concerts with luminaries including Barbra Streisand, Bernadette Peters, Brian Stokes Mitchell, Kristin Chenoweth and Bette Midler-strikes again next week on November 15 when he directs the star-studded grand opening of the new Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts-a prestigious new venue that will both transform the city and reshape the way people think about Orlando as a destination for entertainment.

The Old Globe today announced that James Vasquez (Dr. Seuss' How The Grinch Stole Christmas!, Richard O'Brien's The Rocky Horror Show) will direct the final show of its 2014-2015 Season, the West Coast premiere of an exciting new American play, Rich Girl, by acclaimed playwright Victoria Stewart. On Sunday October 26, Clifford Bell presented the first Rick Starr Scholarship Fund Benefit Concert, entitled Starr Bucks, at Upstairs at Vitello's in Studio City. The beloved Starr, who passed away about a year ago, worked at Hollywood Sheet Music and served the Los Angeles musical theatre community in a most unusual, endearing way. Not only did he assist singers over the years to find unpublished songs for their various club acts and cabaret performances, but would go out of his way to find material for them depending on their individual preferences...and would call each and every customer on his or her birthday every year, just to wish them a Happy Birthday. A rare and delightful human being! Starr was remembered fondly with anecdotes by the three cabaret stars of the evening Mary Jo Mundy, Todd Murray and Shawn Ryan. Affable virtuoso pianist/singer Michael Sobie served as accompanist/musical director throughout the 90 minute set.

Chicago born singer, cabaret performer, writer, lyricist and actress, Charlene Brooks, returns to the Skokie Theatre in Highly Seasoned, Saturday, Dec. 20 at 8 p.m. with a holiday reception featuring food and drink from Skokie eateries at 7 p.m. at the Skokie Theatre, 7924 N.
