Grammy Award-nominated musician Nelson Gonzalez has joined the creative team of the upcoming Second Stage Theatre production of THE HAPPIEST SONG PLAYS LAST, written by 2012 Pulitzer Prize winner Quiara Alegria Hudes and directed by Tony Award winner Ruben Santiago-Hudson. Mr. Gonzalez, who is widely considered the master of the Cuban Tres guitar, will oversee the production's musical elements and will lead a live band during performances.

The National Tour of the Tony, Grammy and Olivier Award-winning hit musical JERSEY BOYS, the story of Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons, welcomes Hayden Milanes (Frankie Valli) and Adam Zelasko (Nick Massi) beginning December 21 in Philadelphia, PA. They will join a company that includes Nicolas Dromard (Tommy DeVito) and Jason Kappus(Bob Gaudio) as The Four Seasons, with Barry Anderson and Thomas Fiscella. The Philadelphia return engagement ofJERSEY BOYS is now playing through January 5 at the Forrest Theatre. Following Philadelphia, the company will move to Richmond, Virginia for a premiere engagement at the Landmark Theater January 7-19. A current tour schedule is below.

O'Neill Center Receives NEA Funding for 2014 National Playwrights and Music Theater Conferences

The Eugene O'Neill Theater Center is one of 895 nonprofit organizations nationwide granted federal funding through an Art Works grant from the National Endowment for the Arts, announced last week by NEA Acting Chairman Joan Shigekawa. The O'Neill will receive $55,000 to support the continued development of new work during its 2014 National Playwrights and National Music Theater Conferences. The O'Neill received a $50,000 NEA grant last year.

Today in 1989, City of Angels opened at the Virginia Theatre (now the August Wilson Theatre), where it ran for 879 performances. City of Angels is a musical comedy with music by Cy Coleman, lyrics by David Zippel, and book by Larry Gelbart. The musical weaves together two plots, the 'real' world of a writer trying to turn his book into a screenplay, and the 'reel' world of the fictional film. The musical is an homage to the film noir genre of motion pictures that rose to prominence in the 1940s. It was directed by Michael Blakemore with sets designed by Robin Wagner and costumes by Florence Klotz.
