As BroadwayWorld announced yesterday, screenvision, the leading innovator in cinema advertising, has added extended dates for its limited presentation of the New York Philharmonic's critically acclaimed, all-star revival of Stephen Sondheim's Tony Award-winning musical, Company. A STREETCAR NAMED DESIRE Returns To Broadway Starring Blair Underwood in 2012; Emily Mann Directs

The Hollywood Reporter has reveals today that A Streetcar Named Desire will get a Broadway revival in the spring of 2012, directed by Emily Mann and starring The Event's Blair Underwood as Stanley Kowalski. The production will be presented on Broadway by Front Row Productions. This will be the nineth revival of the famous Tennessee Williams play, the most recent being in 2005 starring the late Natasha Richardson, Amy Ryan and John C. Reilly.

Television icon Regis Philbin, Muppets creator Jim Henson, the extraordinary actresses who vocally brought to life many modern-day Disney Princesses including Jodi Benson (Ariel from The Little Mermaid), Paige O'Hara (Belle from Beauty and the Beast), Lea Salonga (singing voices of Jasmine from Aladdin and Mulan from Mulan), Linda Larkin (speaking voice of Jasmine from Aladdin), and Anika Noni Rose (Princess Tiana from The Princess and the Frog) plus other equally impressive contributors to the Disney legacy will be named and honored as official Disney Legends during the D23 EXPO at 11 a.m. on Friday, August 19, in the Anaheim Convention Center Arena.

I was lucky enough to see COMPANY last week and I can tell you that not only is it the best live representation of the show that any audience could ask for - Broadway babies, Sondheim neophytes and everything in between and far, far beyond - but a considerable reexamination of the themes, elements, emotions and the steely, chrome machinations ringing within the heartbeat of the show's cynical core. Lonny Price's COMPANY is something unique in modern entertainment, on Broadway, on film or anywhere else - it is multi-dimensional in a revolutionary way that is, frankly, unprecedented. This is Broadway in the 21st century at its best with a cast led by the brightest stars in the Broadway and TV universe on full display for a film audience and if this enterprise is successful, the mind marvels at the endless possibilities this format could afford in the future, both near and far.
