MTV, a unit of Viacom Inc. (NASDAQ: VIAB, VIA), has teamed up with the world-renowned, Brooklyn-based artist KAWS to reimagine the MTV Moonman for the 2013 MTV “Video Music Awards” -- the first major awards show to ever take place in Brooklyn, airing LIVE from Barclays Center on August 25, 2013. An artist whose work has been presented at prestigious museums and galleries from Los Angeles to Paris, Tokyo and Hong Kong, KAWS' art will be present throughout the award show, influencing the design for both the set and the logo. Additionally, artists who win a 2013 “Video Music Award” will take home a special-edition KAWS Moonman, which was created exclusively for this year's show.

In honor of his genius for shape shifting, the Film Society will present Watch That Man: David Bowie, Movie Star (August 2-8), a retrospective of what is arguably his finest work on the big screen—plus two special rarities from the BBC archives, one of which has never been seen in the U.S.

Redmoon, the large-scale spectacle and public art group, is hosting a symposium at their new home in Pilsen on 'Youth voice, empowerment, and the value and power of public space' as a culmination to Redmoon's Youth Spectacle 2013 intervention series. On the heels of Co-Artistic Director, Jim Lasko's return from distinguished year-long Harvard-based Loeb Fellowship, he will speak to frame the evenings event. The event will feature a keynote given by Trung Le, Principal Architect for Cannon Design's education consultancy group, an advocate for incorporating multiple intelligences and learning styles in the design of education environments, and co-author of The Third Teacher with Bruce Mao.

Sara Mearns, New York City Ballet principal dancer, will star in the production, which will be conducted by Music Director Alan Gilbert, directed and designed by Doug Fitch, choreographed by Karole Armitage, and produced by Edouard Getaz - tonight, June 27, 2013, at 7:30 p.m.; Friday, June 28 at 8:00 p.m.; and Saturday, June 29 at 8:00 p.m.

A longstanding west-coast anchor for creative expression and the only venue between Los Angeles and San Francisco focused solely on contemporary art, the Museum of Contemporary Art Santa Barbara (MCA Santa Barbara), formerly known as Santa Barbara Contemporary Arts Forum (CAF), presents its inaugural exhibition of work by New York-based artist Dasha Shishkin and a solo project by Mexico City-based Edgar Orlaineta. Set for Fourth of July weekend, the July 6 openings kick off a month-long celebration of the new MCA Santa Barbara, which will include artist meet-and-greets, a VIP Founders Circle reception, and new public outreach initiatives, such as the Visiting Artist Summer Series. Both exhibitions will be on view July 6 through September 8, 2013.
