UMS Receives NEA Art Works Grant

The National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) has announced awards totaling more than $27.6 million in its first funding round of fiscal year 2016, including an Art Works award of $30,000 to University Musical Society (UMS) to support a multidisciplinary series of performances and related engagement programs.

FPAC presents The Nutcracker today, December 5 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, December 6 at 2 p.m. at the Franklin High School auditorium, 218 Oak Street, in Franklin.
Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum Partners with Google to Create New Online Exhibition

Tuesday, Google announced the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum's participation in the opening of the Google Cultural Institute, a new online exhibition that offers unique, interactive, online experiences from 60 of the world's foremost cultural institutions. With events at Carnegie Hall, and in six other cities across the globe, Google debuted this first-of-its-kind exhibition, which allows viewers to experience the best in dance, music, opera and more.

The Auditorium Theatre presents Thodos Dance Chicago on Saturday, January 9, 2016 at 7:30 p.m. with the world premiere of Sono's Journey, choreographed by Founder and Artistic Director Melissa Thodos. This full company work artistically traces Japanese-American Sono Osato's path from her 1934 audition on the Auditorium Theatre stage that launched her dance career with Ballets Russe de Monte-Carlo at age 14, to her position today, at the age of 96, as one of the most inspirational, barrier-breaking artists in American Dance. Sono Osato and her family will be in attendance for this special performance. Segerstrom Center to Welcome Dover Quartet in March

Segerstrom Center presents the Dover Quartet on Thursday, March 17 at 8 p.m. in Samueli Theater. The New Yorker recently dubbed the Dover Quartet "the young American string quartet of the moment," and The Strad raved that the quartet is "already pulling away from their peers with their exceptional interpretive maturity, tonal refinement and taut ensemble." For its Center debut, the Quartet will perform Mozart's String Quartet No. 17 in B-flat Major, K. 458; the Center premiere performance of French composer Dutilleux's "Ainsi la nuit" (1976) and Shostakovich's Quartet No. 2 in A Major, Op. 68. A free Preview Talk with musicologist and author Herbert Glass will take place at 7:15 p.m.

Broadway veteran Cheyenne Jackson will make his Segerstrom Center for the Arts debut with his new show Hello Gorgeous: Cheyenne Jackson Goes To The Movies tonight, November 21, 2015 in the Renee and Henry Segerstrom Concert Hall. Jackson will perform musical gems from shows such as Gypsy and Little Shop of Horrors, as well as classic film favorites from Breakfast at Tiffany's, Casablanca, The Wizard of Oz and James Bond films.
