Boston Landmarks Orchestra closes their 2016 Free Wednesday Concerts at the DCR Memorial Hatch Shell on August 31 (7 pm)* with another extraordinary collaboration with Commonwealth Shakespeare Company (CSC).  A concert performance  -  with music and dance - of The Boys from Syracuse, with music by Richard Rodgers, lyrics by Lorenz Hart, and a new adaptation of the George Abbott book by Larry ( and Jennifer Hart with consultation by 3-time Tony Award librettist (Annie, co-librettist of The Producers and Hairspray) Tom Meehan.  The concert is free and open to the public. *If it is raining on August 31, the concert will be postponed to September 1 at the Hatch Shell. If it is also raining September 1st, the concert will be moved to Symphony Hall on the 1st. For more information visit landmarksorchestra.org.

Birmingham's Old Rep Theatre are staging a brand new take on the classic Robert Louis Stevenson tale, Treasure Island, as their Christmas show this year - the first sizeable run the theatre has had since Birmingham Ormiston Academy became their creative partner. Because of this, a handful of BOA students are starring in both feature roles and ensemble, alongside several professional performers. Jam packed full of adventure, peril and musical numbers, the show has been tailored for the whole family.

The Museum of the Moving Image's popular series See It Big! will turn its focus to the movie musical with a fourteen-film celebration of the genre, from today, January 24 through February 28, 2014. Musicals are, by their very nature, filled with spectacle. They are heightened forms of storytelling, in which the narrative is amplified by song and dance, where characters express their innermost feelings in the most extravagant ways imaginable. It is a genre that celebrates excess and stylization, and the best examples of the form can only be truly enjoyed... big!

Jack Jones celebrates his fiftieth anniversary in show business in a special one night only concert at The McCallum Theatre in Palm Desert on Saturday, November 23, at 8:00pm. Jones won two Grammys for 'Best Pop Male Vocal Performance' with his singles 'Lollipops and Roses' and 'Wives and Lovers.' He was also nominated for 'The Impossible Dream,' and his recording of 'Wives and Lovers' was nominated for 'Record of the Year'. His hit records include 'The Race Is On,' 'Lady,' 'Call Me Irresponsible,' and 'What I Did for Love.' He is a leading interpreter of musical theater, with acclaimed performances in Guys and Dolls, South Pacific, She Loves Me, Pajama Game, and as Don Quixote in the national tour of Man of La Mancha.
