HERE begins its 2013-2014 producing season with the premiere of the site-specific Artistic Director production, Trade Practices, by Kristin Marting & David Evans Morris. Trade Practices, a new work exploring the notion of 'value' against the backdrop of the booms and busts of the past decade, is set to play October 18 - November 3. Official Opening Night is set for Tuesday, October 22 at 7:00pm. Trade Practices will take place at a site in lower Manhattan's Financial District; address to be announced.
Alex Timbers Signs on for Universal's ROSALINE's Film

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Broadway director Alex Timbers has signed on to helm a comedic version of Romeo and Juliet titled 'Roseline' for Universal. The project is loosely based on Rebecca Serle's 2012 'When You Were Mine' novel, and focuses on the classic romance told from the perspective of Juliet's cousin and Romeo's initial love interest.

According to the New York Times, The Public Theater's critically acclaimed Here Lies Love, with concept and lyrics by David Byrne, music by David Byrne and Fatboy Slim, still might have a future life following its run this past spring, but plans to remount the musical have been delayed until next year.

The Civilians, the award-winning New York-based theatre company, announces the members of its 2013-14 R & D Group. The group's emerging and established artists were selected from over one hundred applicants. The R & D Group is comprised of artists from multiple theatrical disciplines. Each artist or creative team will develop an original work over the season. The artists and projects were selected to represent a range of different strategies for making new work from creative inquiry and research. This diversity of approach helps feed a culture of innovation in the group, making the R & D Group an effective lab of experimentation for the field of investigative theater.

The Old Globe presents The Last Goodbye, a new musical fusing Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet with the incendiary songs of the legendary singer-songwriter Jeff Buckley. Conceived and adapted by Michael Kimmel, the rock musical is directed by two-time Tony Award nominee Alex Timbers (Peter and the Starcatcher, Bloody BloodyAndrew Jackson). Choreography is by Emmy Award nominee Sonya Tayeh ('So You Think You Can Dance'), and orchestrations, music direction and arrangements are by Kris Kukul. The Last Goodbye will run on the Donald and Darlene Shiley Stage in the Old Globe Theatre, part of the Globe's Conrad Prebys Theatre Center, now through Nov. 3, 2013. PETER AND THE STARCATCHER to Close at New World Stages January 12, 2014

The producers of Peter and the Starcatcher announced this morning that the audience and critics' favorite will play its final performance at New World Stages on Sunday, January 12, 2014, after almost two years, five Tony Awards, and 645 performances (both on Broadway and at New World Stages). Written by Tony Award nominee Rick Elice and directed by Tony Award-winner Roger Rees and Tony Award-nominee Alex Timbers, Peter and the Starcatcher opened on Broadway on April 15, 2012 and ran until January 20, 2013, before beginning performances at New World Stages (340 West 50th St.) on Monday, March 18, 2013.

After winning prestigious awards both on Broadway and Off-Broadway, Disney's PETER AND THE STARCATCHER, a magical prequel to Peter Pan, is headed for Houston. The Hobby Center for the Performing Arts is the First National Tour production's third stop on their expansive route. The tour cast kicked off the show on August 15, 2013 in Denver and are currently playing to audiences in Dallas. Recently, Luke Smith, who plays Smee, took time out of his busy schedule to chat with me about PETER AND THE STARCATCHER, his career on stage, and his band Awning.
