Poetic Theater Productions is proud to present POETIC LICENSE 2014: SHADES OF LOVE, their third annual festival of new poetic theater. Running from Monday, February 3 for a limited engagement through Sunday, February 16, the expanded two-week festival features performances, readings and cabaret evenings covering topics such as war, love, mental health, family, identity and politics from diverse social and cultural voices. The performance schedule and ticket prices vary. See below for details. All performances are at The Wild Project (195 E. 3rd Street between Avenues A & B). The nominations have been announced for the Planet Connections Theatre Festivity's 2012 Awards Gala, taking place tonight, July 29 at 7:30pm at Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater (405 W. 55th Street). Among the nominees are three-time Tony Award-winner Hinton Battle (for directing & choreographing What We Do for Love or Other Desperate Measures) and recent Tony Award-nominee Patti Murin (for her performance in La Strega).

Poetic Theater Productions remounts Goliath by Takeo Rivera, recipient of the 2011 Planet Connections Award for Outstanding Overall Production of a New Play, tonight, May 23rd through June 3rd at the Wild Project (195 E 3rd St). Goliath is once again directed by Alex Mallory (2011 Planet Connections Award for Outstanding Direction) and features return ensemble members Samantha Cooper, Dontonio Demarco, Natalia Duong, Edgar Eguia and Monique Paige (2011 Planet Connections Award for Outstanding Ensemble) and newcomers Kenneth Heaton, Iliana Inocencio and Nabil Viñas. The production features lighting design by Brad Peterson, fight choreography by Jim Cairl and stage management by Sarah Livant.

This spring, the students in Site-Specific Directing at Primary Stages Einhorn School of Performing Arts (ESPA) have staged theatre all over New York City: from Shakespeare in Central Park and on the High Line to Chekhov in the Russian and Turkish Baths to Sarah Kane on rooftops, libraries, and street corners. The directors concluded their class this week by fully producing eight new short plays by a group of incredible writers in and around the Dumbo neighborhood of Brooklyn.
