Orchestra of St. Luke's (OSL) raised a record-setting $1.13 million at its annual Gift of Music gala at The Plaza Hotel on Monday, March 24, 2014. Funds raised at the gala benefit the artistic and Community & Education programs of OSL, one of America's most versatile orchestras, as well as The DiMenna Center for Classical Music, New York City's first and only space dedicated to classical music rehearsal, recording, and education.

On Monday night, March 31, at the 38th annual Carbonell Awards, when the statuettes were all handed out, the musical numbers had concluded and the audience had left the Broward Center for the Performing Arts to attend the after-party, two things could not be denied: South Florida is home to a rich, vibrant theatrical community packed with talent; and it was a good night to be Island City Stage.

WAR HORSE Now Seen by 5 Million Audience Members Worldwide

The National Theatre of Great Britain's epic WAR HORSE, winner of five 2011 Tony Awards including Best Play, this week achieved the extraordinary milestone of welcoming its 5 millionth audience member worldwide. Additionally, the North American tour of WAR HORSE, which debuted in June 2012 at the Ahmanson Theatre in Los Angeles, is now the highest grossing and most attended play ever to tour the US and Canada. Currently playing at the Bob Carr Performing Arts Center in Orlando, FL, the tour will next move to Miami, FL for an engagement at the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts. A full tour route is below. The tour continues through August 2014.

Coming up tonight, February 28 at 9:00PM EST, PBS will present the national, TV broadcast premiere of Jazz and the Philharmonic, a co-production by the National YoungArts Foundation-a national organization that identifies and supports the next generation of artists-the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts of Miami-Dade County, Frost School of Music at the University of Miami, and JAZZ ROOTS Producer Larry Rosen. Jazz and the Philharmonic was presented and filmed at the John S. and James L. Knight Concert Hall at the Adrienne Arsht Center on January 11, 2013 and is a unique and wholly American concert experience which highlights two of the greatest musical art forms, classical and jazz. House Theatre Extends ROSE AND THE RIME Through 3/23

The House Theatre of Chicago has announced the extension of their all-ages original play, Rose and the Rime, at the Chopin Theatre Upstairs Theatre, 1543 W. Division St., through Sunday, March 23. The play is created by Company Members Chris Matthews, Jake Minton and Artistic Director Nathan Allen, who is also the production's director, choreography by Company Member Tommy Rapley and music by Company Member Kevin O' Donnell. Performances are Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday matinees at 3 p.m. Although designed for adults, Rose and The Rime is suitable for kids six and up. The run time is 85 minutes with no intermission. Current ticket prices range from $20 to $40. Ticket prices for the extension (After March 9) range from $20 - $45 (performance schedule remains the same). $10 Student and Industry Same-Day discounted tickets are available for all dates, seats permitting. After running for two years at the Chopin Theatre in Wicker Park, Dennis Watkins' one- man-show, The Magic Parlour: an intimate evening of classic magic, first appeared at The Palmer House Hilton on New Year's Eve of 2011. Produced by The House Theatre of Chicago, this intimate, close-up magic and mind-reading show rang its third year at the historic hotel with a New Year's Eve performance on December 31, 2013 in the legendary Empire Room.
