SUMMER SHORTS 2012 Begins Opens at 59E59 Theaters Tonight, 7/26

Throughline Artists (J.J. Kandel, Executive Producer; John McCormack, Producing Artistic Director) will present SUMMER SHORTS 2012, their sixth annual festival of new American short plays from established and emerging writers, at 59E59 Theaters (59 East 59th Street). Performances begin tonight, Thursday July 26th, and continue through Saturday September 1st.

59E59 Theaters has announced the roster of shows for the Fall 2012 Season, including the New York premiere revival of Stephen Schwartz' WORKING, beginning Dec. 1, 2012. This is the newly revised, critically acclaimed version of WORKING that recently had a successful run at the Broadway Playhouse in Chicago, after premiering at the Asolo in Sarasota and Old Globe in San Diego.

Philip Ridley’s TENDER NAPALM Begins 8/23 at 59E59 Theaters

59E59 Theaters (Elysabeth Kleinhans, Artistic Director; Peter Tear, Executive Producer) welcomes The Shop with the US premiere of TENDER NAPALM, written by Philip Ridley and directed by Paul Takacs. TENDER NAPALM begins performances on Thursday, August 23 for a limited engagement through Sunday, September 9. Press opening is Wednesday, August 29 at 7:30 PM. The performance schedule is Tuesday - Thursday at 7:30 PM; Friday and Saturday at 8:30 PM; and Sunday at 3:30 PM. Performances are at 59E59 Theaters (59 East 59th Street, between Park and Madison Avenues). Tickets are $18 ($12.60 for 59E59 Members). On The Square Productions Premieres THE MINERVAE, Now thru 7/20

The Minervae, directed by Stephen Kaliski, will be performed free to the public for all performances. Set in the dying days of the Roman Empire, The Minervae - combining both classic theatrical elements with a modern, humorous twist - tells the story of one mythological goddess who refuses to move over for the fashionable new "cult" of Christianity. Jilted, Minerva sets out to re-convert the converted. Standing in her way are the schemes of the other Olympians: bitter Vulcan, volatile Mars, ambitious Apollo, and the enigmatic Diana. The Astoria Free Theatre Project is a bi-annual theatre production produced by On The Square Productions. The aim of this project is to bring a free, professional piece of new writing to a found space in Astoria. Athens Square Park is located in Astoria, Queens at the intersection of 30th Ave and 30th St just off the 30th Avenue stop of the N/Q lines. Admission is first come, first serve.

Jeff Harnar Makes Birdland Debut, 8/27

The Broadway at Birdland concert series will present JEFF HARNAR in "Does This Song Make Me Look Fat?" on Monday, August 27 at 7pm. Musical Director for the concert will be Alex Rybeck, with Mark Minkler on bass and Ray Marchica on drums.

Primary Stages presents Harrison,TX: Three Plays by Horton Foote, the first production of their 28th Season. Tony Award nominees HAllie Foote (Dividing the Estate) and Jayne Houdyshell (Follies, Well) will head up an ensemble featuring Devon Abner (Dividing the Estate), Mary Bacon (Rock 'N' Roll on Broadway, Motherhood Out Loud at Primary Stages), Jeremy Bobb (Is He Dead on Broadway, Shipwrecked at Primary Stages), Alexander Cendense (A View From the Bridge), Andrea Lynn Green (Giant at Dallas Theatre Center), Evan Jonigkeit (History Boys at Arden Theatre Company), and Jenny Dare Paulin (Dividing the Estate). Helmed by Tony Award nominated director Pam MacKinnon (Clybourne Park, A Lifetime Burning at Primary Stages), Harrison,TX runs July 24 - September 15 at Primary Stages at 59E59 Theaters.
