OWN: Oprah Winfrey Network announced today it has renewed for a fifth season Ava DuVernay's critically acclaimed drama series “Queen Sugar” to air in 2020. Produced by Warner Horizon Scripted Television, “Queen Sugar” has been lauded for its powerful portrayal of an African-American family in the Deep South and for DuVernay's initiative since the series' inception to hire an inclusive crew and all-female directing team, many of whom were first time TV directors. Current season four showrunner Anthony Sparks returns for the fifth season. 

Critically acclaimed drama series “Queen Sugar,” from creator and executive producer Ava DuVernay (“When They See Us,” “13th,” “Selma”), has announced the addition of five female directors to the season line-up: Lacey Duke, C. Fitz, Pratibha Parmar, Deborah Kampmeier and Stacey Muhammad. This marks 32 female filmmakers the series has hired to make their U.S. scripted television directing debuts. In addition, guest stars Cree Summer and Bryan Terrell Clark join the cast on the upcoming fourth season returning Wednesday, June 12 at 9 p.m. ET/PT on OWN: Oprah Winfrey Network.

“Queen Sugar,” the critically acclaimed drama series from Academy Award-nominated filmmaker Ava DuVernay (“A Wrinkle in Time,” “13th,” “Selma”), executive producer Oprah Winfrey and Warner Horizon Scripted Television, returns for its fourth season on OWN Wednesday, June 12 (9 p.m. ET/PT). Continuing a creative initiative established in the show's first season, series creator/executive producer DuVernay has once again assembled an all-female directing team for the fourth consecutive season. Season 4 directors include Cheryl Dunye, who will also serve as producing director, in addition to Carmen Marrón, Numa Perrier, Heidi Saman, Bola Ogun and Tchaiko Omawale, all of whom will be making their television directorial debut, with additional names to be announced.

The fourth edition of New York Queer Tango Weekend, NYQTW, will offer an opportunity to the international Queer Tango community to convene in New York City, September 27-30, to hone their craft at workshops and master classes taught by the leading tango teachers, explore the endless variety of tango at milongas - tango social parties - and mix and mingle with the New York tango community.

Highlighting the theme ART on the FRONTLINE, the 3rd FUERZAfest NY brings together LGBTQ communities, straight allies, Latino artists, and local leaders to celebrate the richness of Latinx LGBTQ cultures. Winner of Macha Theatre's Playwriting Competition Macha Theatre presents a workshop production of a new play, Shades by Tom Hartley, the winner of Macha's 2013 Playwriting Competition, produced and directed by Odalys Nanin. The play opens Saturday, March 29th at 8pm at Macha Theatre/Films in West Hollywood, California. The story centers on Miguel, a troubled high school student who enjoys taunting gays. Miguel's life is unexpectedly turned upside down, when a gift from his girlfriend ends-up changing his life forever - as he sets-off on an often comedic course of self-acceptance about his own sexuality. A Tango tale in three parts, Recuerdo reflects on the present, past and everyday life through a series of vignettes. This world premiere features nine outstanding dancers, a live four-piece band, and vocalist Sofia Tosello under the direction of renowned dancer and choreographer Mariela Franganillo and Bob McAndrew, Recuerdo combines both early and modern expressions of tango to explore a variety of forms of memory -ranging in tone from passionate to comical and reaching the boundaries of tender to tormented.
