By:

Winner of Macha Theatre's Playwriting Competition Macha Theatre presents a workshop production of a new play, Shades by Tom Hartley, the winner of Macha's 2013 Playwriting Competition, produced and directed by Odalys Nanin. The play opens Saturday, March 29th at 8pm at Macha Theatre/Films in West Hollywood, California. The story centers on Miguel, a troubled high school student who enjoys taunting gays. Miguel's life is unexpectedly turned upside down, when a gift from his girlfriend ends-up changing his life forever - as he sets-off on an often comedic course of self-acceptance about his own sexuality. Going gay has never been this dysfunctional!

The cast includes Jon Alexi, Jose Bonilla, Armando Broncas, Andrew Danner, Kevin Dulude, Chera Holland, Catherine Mersereau, Walter Perez, Daniel Rivera, Shin Shimizu, Deja Soufka, Keiko Terashima, & Lori Allen Thomas. The play previews Friday, March 28th and runs March 29th through April 19th, playing Fridays and Saturdays at 8pm, Sundays at 6pm. There is male nudity. Ages 18 and up only.

The award-winning Macha Theatre is the only ongoing producing theatre in West Hollywood, California. The Macha is owned and operated by Odalys Nanin who is recipient of the Maverick Award from the Los Angeles Women's Theatre Festival and the Pat Parker Award from Christopher Street West, among others. In 2013, Ms. Nanin garnered two LA Weekly Picks of the Week back to back (March for Marilyn - My Secret! and in July for her re-imagined version of her original play Garbo's Cuban Lover.) Macha Theatre/Films is located at 1107 N. Kings Road in West Hollywood, CA 90069.
