Sound Street Productions presents the first full-length recording of Show Choir! - The Musical with new orchestrations by Assaf Gleizner, and under the musical direction of Kenneth Gartman. Show Choir! - The Musical is a melodious mockumentary about America's favorite teen pastime...with jazz hands. This original musical comedy by Mark McDaniels and Donald Garverick has been developing in New York City since 2006, including an award winning production at the 2007 New York International Fringe Festival and a sold out run at the 2010 New York Musical Theatre Festival. Show Choir! also received acclaimed productions at the 2011 Edinburgh Fringe Festival and The American Conservatory Theatre - San Francisco in 2012.

Brooklyn's AOP (American Opera Projects) celebrated its 25th anniversary of developing and producing opera and music theater on Monday, May 12 with a gala that honored Stephen Schwartz, composer and lyricist of Wicked, Pippin, and Godspell as well as the AOP-developed opera Séance on a Wet Afternoon.

The Duke Ellington Center for the Arts will commemorate the Duke's 115th birthday with an outdoor ceremony and concert on Sunday, April 27th at 1 PM in front of Duke Ellington's statue at 5th Avenue and 110th street. The actress Lauren Stanford pulled off a dramatic win last night, as she became the 2013 MetroStar at the Metropolitan Room in New York. A Kansas City native with musical theatre credits, Stanford edged out her four co-finalists in tight scoring that belied how strong and evenly matched this year's MetroStar Talent Challenge Top 5 had become.

After a highly competitive semi-final round of the 'MetroStar Talent Challenge' at The Metropolitan Room last night, five finalists were picked to move forward in the 7-week singers' competition. The five finalists, who will go head to head next Monday, August 19, are Stephen Mitchell Brown, Venessa Diaz, Jason Morris, Tony Ponella and Lauren Stanford.

Generations mix and The Great American Songbook's writers are in the cabaret mix--starting with Irving Berlin--when star of stage/TV/film (and, belatedly, cabaret) Anita Gillette and other established performers honor the composer-lyricist giant. Veteran stars like Gillette will join forces with young teen performers in the new series Cabaret Scenes with Cabaret Teens, at Manhattan's Metropolitan Room, as part of the "weekend matinee shift." Steve Ross, the veteran globe-trotting entertainer dubbed the "Crown Prince of Cabaret," and well-versed in the verses and choruses of Berlin, will guest on August 4, along with vocalist Frank Dain, who is also the editor of Cabaret Scenes Magazine, the only print magazine specializing in cabaret. The program is titled for its non-profit Foundation as a beneficiary for the concerts, along with charities serving needy teens. Nightclub and record star Karen Wyman will also sing and add her perspective, while also guesting is multi-award winning vocalist Karen Oberlin.

Produced by writer Rob Lester, the evening, which consists of two different shows (8 & 10 pm) will benefit Cabaret Scenes Magazine, with all proceeds donated to Cabaret Scenes Magazine, the only print publication of its kind, its website, www.cabaretscenes.org and the non-profit Cabaret Foundation. Associate producer is Stevie Phillips. According to producer Rob Lester, this Centennial 'Cahn-cert' includes special 'Cahn-versations' about Sammy and a 'Cahn-Test' with prizes and a raffle.

Singer Ann Hampton Callaway called it 'Musical Church,' and deemed host Jim Caruso the 'Irreverent Reverend!' Monday night's Cast Party was the be-all and end-all of extreme open-mic madness, with impromptu performances by some of the best and brightest on the Broadway, jazz, cabaret and concert scenes. Callaway led a blues vocal quintet, along with headliner Lorna Luft, Broadway leading lady Carrie Manolakos, Birdland's William Blake and Manilow-co-star Muffy Hendrix.
