The holidays in Dallas would not be complete without the gorgeously wrapped trees of Mockingbird, Mariah Carey, and a production of A Christmas Carol. For at least ten years now, Dallas Theatre Center has brought the wintry story to life right in the heart of balmy Texas. Though the adaptation isn't the most dramaturgically sound, the production is flashy and fun, especially for young families.

Dallas Theater Center to Host Community Conversation About MILLER, MISSISSIPPI


Dallas Theater Center will host a curated conversation featuring insights into the world-premiere play Miller, Mississippi on Aug. 21 at the Beckley-Saner Recreation Center, located at 114 W Hobson Ave., Dallas, Texas 75224. In a moderated panel discussion, Diane and Hal Brierley Resident Acting Company members Alex Organ and Liz Mikel will discuss their experiences, and how they have informed their approach to the characters they portray in Miller, Mississippi. Moderated by Amber Sims, this conversation will address advantage and what happens 'when tradition is sacred, and change is slow'. A reception will begin at 6:30 p.m. with food donated by Babe's Chicken Dinner House, followed by the conversation at 7 p.m. This event is free and open to the public.

Second Thought Theatre Announces 2018 Season


On the heels of closing a successful 13th season, Second Thought Theatre Artistic Director Alex Organ announced details for the company's 2018 season today. The new season adds a fourth production for the first time since 2013 and is comprised of three area premieres and one world premiere. Play selections include 'a work of total fiction' taking place during the 2008 New Hampshire Democratic primary, a committed couple resorting to a miracle drug to regain their capacity for empathy, a city planner fighting for the safety of a town that doesn't want his help, and a provocative ensemble piece that exposes the incongruities of being a woman in the 21st century. Dallas Theater Center Presents the World Premiere of MILLER, MISSISSIPPI


2017 Regional Theatre Tony Award® Recipient Dallas Theater Center presents the world premiere of Miller, Mississippi; a new play written by Boo Killebrew and directed by Lee Sunday Evans. Beginning with a Pay-What-You-Can performance on Wednesday, Aug. 30 at 7:30 p.m., the production runs through Sunday, Oct. 1 at the Dee and Charles Wyly Theatre Studio Theatre. Second Thought to Close 2017 Season with World Premiere of THE NECESSITIES


Second Thought Theatre closes its 2017 season of change with the world premiere of The Necessities by Dallas-based playwright and artist Blake Hackler. Joel Ferrell, Associate Artistic Director for the Dallas Theater Center, returns to direct after previously directing Othello and Gruesome Playground Injuries for the company.

DTC Awarded $30k from National Endowment for the Arts


National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) Chairman Jane Chu has approved more than $82 million to fund local arts projects across the country in the NEA's second major funding announcement for fiscal year 2017. Included in this announcement is an Art Works award of $30,000 to Dallas Theater Center (DTC) to support the upcoming world-premiere production of Hood: The Robin Hood Musical Adventure. The NEA received 1,728 Art Works applications and will make 1,029 grants ranging from $10,000 to $100,000.
