Lawrence Zucker, Executive Director of The Town Hall, to Step Down at the End of the Year


After 44 years of leading The Town Hall as its Executive Director, Lawrence Zucker will be stepping down from his leadership role at the end of the calendar year.

Melay Araya Announced as New Artistic Director of The Town Hall


The Town Hall Foundation's Board of Trustees and Lawrence Zucker, Executive Director, have announced that Melay Araya has been named the new Artistic Director of the renowned performing arts venue. Since 2018, Araya worked at Town Hall in the joint role of Associate Artistic Director and Archivist.

Last night, May 2, The Town Hall, led by Marvin Leffler and Lawrence Zucker celebrated its 90th Anniversary with 'Town Hall at 90,' a benefit concert paying tribute to the rich cultural history of the institution from 1921 to the present day. The concert starred Tony Award winner Jason Robert Brown, Tony Award nominee Liz Callaway, Tony Award nominee and Drama Desk, Theatre world and Emmy Award winner Tovah Feldshuh, legendary Jazz guitarist and banjoist Bucky Pizzarelli and Tony Award nominee Emily Skinner. Dancers/choreographers Jeffry Denman ('White Christmas,' 'Yank!') and Noah Racey ('Curtains') danced together. Scott Siegel, creator/writer and host of The Town Hall's acclaimed Broadway By The Year series, has written and will host the evening. Last night, June 14, The Town Hall celebrated the Broadway By The Year® 10th Anniversary Celebration - Broadway By The Year 1990-2010, Created, written and hosted by Scott Siegel for the Town Hall, the Broadway performers included Norm Lewis (The Little Mermaid, Sondheim on Sondheim), Karen Mason (Mama Mia!), Astaire Award-winner Spencer Liff (Cry- Baby), Michael Winther (Mama Mia!), Douglas Ladnier (Jekyll & Hyde), Ann Harada (Avenue Q), four-time Tony® Award nominee Gregg Edelmann (Tale of Two Cities), Alexander Gemignani (Les Miserables), Tony® Award winner Debbie Gravitte, Kendrick Jones (The Scottsboro Boys), three-time Tony® Award nominee Mark Kudisch (9 to 5), Tony® Award nominee Bobby Steggert (Ragtime), Julia Murney (Wicked), Max Von Essen (Xanadu national tour), Tony ® Award nominee Barbara Wash (Company) and Lari White (Ring of Fire). Broadway by the Year 1990-2010 was directed by Nightlife Award winner Scott Coulter, who also performed in the show.

The Town Hall, Broadway's landmark concert venue, has announced its 2010 season lineup. Headliners include Grammy Award-winning folk icon Judy Collins, Grammy Award-winning Afro-funk singer Angélique Kidjo, Tony Award-winning Broadway star Brian Stokes Mitchell, jazz singer Lizz Wright with Grammy-nominated jazz bassist Richard Bona and world music sensations Tito Paris and Lura. Also appearing are stars from ABC's Dancing with the Stars and PBS' America's Ballroom Challenge for Champions of the Dance, Richard Nader's Doo Wop Party, the acclaimed, singing political satirists Capitol Steps and the 10th anniversary season of the popular hit series Broadway by the Year, called 'an annual event that is treasured by Broadway babies' by Stephen Holden of The New York Times.
